[SPEAKER_00]: Listener discretion is strongly advised.

00:25.288 --> 00:30.532
[SPEAKER_01]: In 1995, teenage jealousy led to a brutal murder in Knoxville, Tennessee.

00:31.193 --> 00:37.578
[SPEAKER_01]: Today, more than 30 years later, the case is back in the news for reasons you might not expect.

00:38.539 --> 00:42.522
[SPEAKER_01]: Join me, John Connor, as I discussed the murder of Colleen Slemmer.

00:43.142 --> 00:45.004
[SPEAKER_01]: This is Check The Lockspotcast.

00:57.237 --> 01:04.563
[SPEAKER_01]: Hello and thank you for joining me as I dive into yet another truly terrifying true crime case as always before we begin I hope you're doing well.

01:04.643 --> 01:11.789
[SPEAKER_01]: Hope you're having a great week and I just want to say thank you for letting me hang out with you as you're going through your day I also wanted to say happy fall.

01:12.029 --> 01:24.460
[SPEAKER_01]: It is officially my favorite time of the year And I know that it is the same for a lot of the people who listen to this podcast the weather is cooled off the leaves are started to fall and it is full on spooky season so

01:25.020 --> 01:29.549
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know about y'all, but I've already started diving into my horror movies and get my Halloween on.

01:29.950 --> 01:34.278
[SPEAKER_01]: We even took Millie to see Hocus Pocus in this historic theater here in Franklin, Tennessee.

01:35.148 --> 01:39.950
[SPEAKER_01]: which was awesome because it was the first time that I've actually seen it on the big screen growing up.

01:40.351 --> 01:43.292
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we saw it a bunch, but it was always on the Disney channel and stuff like that.

01:43.332 --> 01:48.655
[SPEAKER_01]: So to be able to sit down and watch it on the big screen with a big group of people, it was really, really cool.

01:48.715 --> 01:55.018
[SPEAKER_01]: So again, if you're like me, this is your favorite time of the year and I hope it is off to an amazing start for you.

01:55.418 --> 01:58.782
[SPEAKER_01]: But with that being said, let's jump into what we're going to be talking about today.

01:59.203 --> 02:08.253
[SPEAKER_01]: So this case actually happened a little over three decades ago, but due to some recent and very startling events, it's actually popped back into the news.

02:08.774 --> 02:11.217
[SPEAKER_01]: Now I will say I don't know if I would normally

02:13.279 --> 02:17.502
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it's important, and there's been a lot of discussion around it over the last couple of days.

02:17.622 --> 02:23.807
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm interested to hear what the listeners think, but I'll dive into that a little bit more in my final thoughts here.

02:23.887 --> 02:26.550
[SPEAKER_01]: So with that, I'm going to go ahead and quit the Gabby Gabby.

02:26.970 --> 02:30.473
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll get into the Stabby Stabby and let's jump into this week's case.

02:30.973 --> 02:39.119
[SPEAKER_01]: Chris the Pike was born in Beckley, West Virginia on March 10, 1976, a small working class city in the southern part of the state.

02:40.029 --> 02:48.851
[SPEAKER_01]: Her mother, Karissa Hansen, was a party girl who drank heavily while pregnant with Christa, leading the girl to be born with organic brain damage and malformations.

02:49.811 --> 02:58.874
[SPEAKER_01]: When Christa was young, her mother seemed to prioritize her partying in romantic relationships, and her father Glenn Pike wanted nothing to do with his child.

02:59.514 --> 03:04.115
[SPEAKER_01]: So she was scentedly with her grandmother, where she would be raised for most of her early life.

03:05.052 --> 03:11.135
[SPEAKER_01]: But trauma would follow the child throughout her formative years, and sadly she would experience a ledge sexual abuse.

03:12.035 --> 03:19.018
[SPEAKER_01]: According to reports, there was a strong education that her grandmother's boyfriend had assaulted Christa beginning at the age of two.

03:19.979 --> 03:22.520
[SPEAKER_01]: Then, at 11, she would be raped by a neighbor.

03:23.360 --> 03:27.362
[SPEAKER_01]: However, in both incidents, there would be no repercussions for her abusers.

03:28.204 --> 03:31.467
[SPEAKER_01]: And when she was 12, her grandmother would pass away from cancer.

03:32.108 --> 03:35.852
[SPEAKER_01]: With the young girl losing the only person who she ever felt really loved her.

03:36.472 --> 03:40.517
[SPEAKER_01]: Following her grandmother's death, she attempted suicide but was unsuccessful.

03:41.157 --> 03:45.402
[SPEAKER_01]: And ultimately, she would be sent back to live with her mother, Karissa, in North Carolina.

03:46.062 --> 03:48.284
[SPEAKER_01]: Where the sexual abuse would only continue.

03:49.479 --> 03:53.042
[SPEAKER_01]: At 13, Christa was assaulted by her mother's then boyfriend.

03:53.862 --> 04:01.088
[SPEAKER_01]: This time, social services would intervene in remover from the home, but the now teenager would be returned only three months later.

04:01.928 --> 04:04.650
[SPEAKER_01]: And the abuse and instability would only continue.

04:05.671 --> 04:14.958
[SPEAKER_01]: Christa would be shuffled back and forth between her mother and her father, who was still living in West Virginia, forcing the teenager to change schools 12 times before eventually

04:19.203 --> 04:28.653
[SPEAKER_01]: But according to Karissa, Krista had become unmanageable, saying that her daughter had been stealing from family members, and that she had been growing weed since the age of 9.

04:29.594 --> 04:32.377
[SPEAKER_01]: Then when Krista was 17, she was attacked again.

04:33.258 --> 04:36.901
[SPEAKER_01]: This time she was dragged into the woods and sexually assaulted by a stranger.

04:37.802 --> 04:42.087
[SPEAKER_01]: Local police would investigate, but unfortunately no one would ever be held accountable.

04:43.396 --> 04:48.821
[SPEAKER_01]: Chris would be arrested for shoplifting and would be ordered to serve one month in a juvenile detention center.

04:49.461 --> 04:53.585
[SPEAKER_01]: And upon a release in 1994, she seemed to be looking for a future.

04:54.366 --> 05:01.993
[SPEAKER_01]: So at 18, she decided to join the Job Corps Training Program in Knoxville, Tennessee, hoping to become a nurse like her mother.

05:02.913 --> 05:08.939
[SPEAKER_01]: And though no one knew it at the time, this choice would lead to one of Tennessee's most brutal murder cases.

05:10.155 --> 05:17.357
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, once enrolled in the program, Krista moved to Knoxville, where she would meet 17-year-old to Darrell's ship.

05:18.257 --> 05:24.559
[SPEAKER_01]: And like many teenagers, her focus quickly shifted from her studies to her own romantic interests.

05:25.219 --> 05:29.100
[SPEAKER_01]: Like Krista, to Darrell had come to the program from a troubled background.

05:29.800 --> 05:32.721
[SPEAKER_01]: He had grown up in Knoxville and he was raised by a single mother.

05:33.641 --> 05:37.482
[SPEAKER_01]: To Darrell would drop out of high school in the ninth grade eventually becoming involved

05:40.055 --> 05:47.702
[SPEAKER_01]: His mother worried about the path that her son was on, urged him to join the job core, where Tadaro would enroll in the culinary arts program.

05:48.708 --> 05:52.970
[SPEAKER_01]: And when Kristen to Darrell met, their relationship developed very quickly.

05:53.610 --> 06:01.034
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, according to reports, the couple were both into a type of Satanism, with to Darrell keeping its satanic altar in his room.

06:01.694 --> 06:12.219
[SPEAKER_01]: And this shared fascination attracted a new friend, Shadola Peterson, an 18-year-old who hailed from Cleveland, Tennessee, who was also a student at the Knoxville Job Corps.

06:13.390 --> 06:23.493
[SPEAKER_01]: The three bonded and became quick friends, but a perceived threat would lead to a violent tragedy, a new student, 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.

06:24.593 --> 06:33.756
[SPEAKER_01]: Described as vibrant and a generous present, Colleen had moved from Jacksonville, Florida to Knoxville, joining the job court to study computer technology.

06:34.236 --> 06:39.257
[SPEAKER_01]: Colleen was a pretty and enthusiastic girl who loved bowling and roller skating, and when

06:42.738 --> 06:46.340
[SPEAKER_01]: Colleen could take a computer apart and put it back together without issue.

06:46.841 --> 06:56.307
[SPEAKER_01]: So when her grandfather suggested the job core program for its computer courses, the teenager who often wore a t-shirt that said computer geek jumped at the chance.

06:56.867 --> 07:03.472
[SPEAKER_01]: It sounded perfect, but her arrival in the program didn't sit well with Krista Pike, who saw Colleen as the threat.

07:04.187 --> 07:08.389
[SPEAKER_01]: believing that she had been hitting on her boyfriend to Darrell and attempting to seal him away.

07:09.209 --> 07:14.451
[SPEAKER_01]: However, friends of Colleen would later deny that she had any romantic interest at all in ship.

07:15.271 --> 07:17.572
[SPEAKER_01]: But Christopher Pike had already made up her mind.

07:18.432 --> 07:19.833
[SPEAKER_01]: She was going to kill Colleen.

07:20.694 --> 07:24.918
[SPEAKER_01]: telling ship and Peterson that they needed to sacrifice the girls of the devil.

07:25.659 --> 07:35.128
[SPEAKER_01]: On January 11, 1995, Christopher told her friend Kim Iolia that she planned on killing Colleen, saying that she, quote, felt mean that day.

07:36.289 --> 07:42.515
[SPEAKER_01]: Iolia decided that her friend was all talk, having no idea that Christopher Pike was fully committed to her decision.

07:43.658 --> 07:54.688
[SPEAKER_01]: The following day on January 12th, Krista, ship, and Peterson invited Colleen out into the woods, telling the 19-year-old that they were going to smoke pot and offering to share.

07:55.548 --> 07:58.751
[SPEAKER_01]: And having no idea what was in store, Colleen agreed.

07:59.792 --> 08:07.514
[SPEAKER_01]: And once they reached the wooded area, Chris the pike into Darryl ship attacked, all while Shadola Peterson kept watch.

08:08.094 --> 08:13.695
[SPEAKER_01]: For nearly half an hour, pike in ship, beat, and cut, and taunted Colleen.

08:14.435 --> 08:16.476
[SPEAKER_01]: Slicing her throat as she begged for her life.

08:17.416 --> 08:20.877
[SPEAKER_01]: Even going as far as carving a pentagram into the girls' chest.

08:21.937 --> 08:27.278
[SPEAKER_01]: Then, Chris derays the large piece of asphalt and proceeded to bludging Colleen to death.

08:28.174 --> 08:35.724
[SPEAKER_01]: When it was over, she would take a piece of the teenager's skull as a type of six souvenir before returning to the job core.

08:37.006 --> 08:46.138
[SPEAKER_01]: The next day, a Tennessee grounds employee would find Colleen's body, and first believing it was a remains of an animal because of how badly she had been beaten.

08:47.640 --> 08:59.432
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, to Darryl ship and Shadola Peterson seemed to be tight-lived about what they had done, but Kristopite couldn't help herself, feeling the need to brag about what she had done to other students at the job core.

09:00.313 --> 09:03.556
[SPEAKER_01]: Even showing off the piece of the skull she had taken from the scene.

09:04.543 --> 09:08.404
[SPEAKER_01]: and it wouldn't be long before the police received a tip pointing to the trio.

09:09.105 --> 09:20.749
[SPEAKER_01]: Less than 36 hours later, Christopike, to Darryl Ship, and Shodola Peterson were all arrested in connection to Colleen's murder, but what happened next was truly surprising.

09:21.349 --> 09:28.312
[SPEAKER_01]: During questioning, Pike waved her Miranda rights, providing a full confession for what she had done in her own words.

09:29.369 --> 09:33.372
[SPEAKER_01]: She told investigators that she just wanted Colleen to leave her the hell alone.

09:34.013 --> 09:36.895
[SPEAKER_01]: But the brutality of the crime pointed to something more.

09:37.696 --> 09:42.420
[SPEAKER_01]: Pike told detectives that, as Colleen begged, her brutality increased.

09:43.140 --> 09:45.682
[SPEAKER_01]: Kicking and cutting the girl as she pled for her life.

09:46.545 --> 09:53.250
[SPEAKER_01]: And with that, Pike, ship, and Peterson were charged with murder, with all three being tried separately.

09:53.770 --> 10:00.215
[SPEAKER_01]: Now at the time of the crime to Darrell ship was only 17 years old, meaning he wasn't eligible for the death penalty.

10:00.935 --> 10:04.838
[SPEAKER_01]: So he would be sentenced to life from prison where he remains to this day.

10:05.459 --> 10:08.201
[SPEAKER_01]: Having last been denied parole on October 20 of 2025.

10:10.578 --> 10:16.963
[SPEAKER_01]: Shadola Peterson would turn state's witness, testifying against Christopheic inodero ship during their trials.

10:17.884 --> 10:27.913
[SPEAKER_01]: Peterson would plead guilty to accessory after the fact, and in exchange for testimony, she would be sentenced to 460 days in jail in a six-year probation sentence.

10:28.972 --> 10:36.356
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, during Christopheight's trial, the defense would argue that her diminished mental capacity was the cause of Colleen's murder.

10:37.196 --> 10:42.279
[SPEAKER_01]: However, the prosecution called an expert witness, Dr. Eric Engum.

10:43.219 --> 10:53.204
[SPEAKER_01]: Dr. Engum testified that Christ's suffered from borderline personality disorder and had a dependency on marijuana, and while she was depressed, he did not believe that she suffered

10:58.506 --> 11:03.828
[SPEAKER_01]: Additionally, Dr. William Burnett and expert in satinism also testified.

11:04.549 --> 11:20.496
[SPEAKER_01]: According to the doctor, there were some satanic elements to the crime, but he believed that the murder was more an act of aggression than a true sacrifice to the devil, saying that he believed the teenagers merely dabbled in the occult, that a fence would go on to

11:25.398 --> 11:28.361
[SPEAKER_01]: But in the end, the jury sided with the prosecution.

11:29.042 --> 11:33.627
[SPEAKER_01]: And Chris the Pike would be found guilty of capital murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

11:34.387 --> 11:38.872
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, unlike today's ship, Pike was 18 at the time of the crime.

11:39.453 --> 11:47.501
[SPEAKER_01]: And she would be sentenced to death on May 30th, 1996, making her the youngest woman to be sentenced to death in Tennessee history.

12:03.157 --> 12:05.559
[SPEAKER_01]: After her sentencing, she would write to ship.

12:06.039 --> 12:07.480
[SPEAKER_01]: Saying, please write me.

12:07.821 --> 12:08.881
[SPEAKER_01]: I miss you so much.

12:09.462 --> 12:11.663
[SPEAKER_01]: You see what I get for trying to be nice to the ho?

12:12.264 --> 12:18.669
[SPEAKER_01]: I went ahead and baste her brains out so she died quickly instead of letting her bleed to death and suffer more, and they fucking fry me.

12:19.249 --> 12:20.130
[SPEAKER_01]: Ain't that some shit?

12:20.910 --> 12:22.812
[SPEAKER_01]: Please write me and tell me what you're feeling.

12:23.452 --> 12:27.355
[SPEAKER_01]: Also tell your lawyer that if you want me to testify for you, I will.

12:28.096 --> 12:29.477
[SPEAKER_01]: Love you for the rest of my life.

12:30.077 --> 12:30.698
[SPEAKER_01]: Little devil.

12:32.193 --> 12:35.015
[SPEAKER_01]: and Pike's violent streak would continue while behind bars.

12:35.935 --> 12:43.980
[SPEAKER_01]: In August of 2004, she would be convicted of attempted first-degree murder after trying to strangle another inmate to death with a shoe string.

12:44.995 --> 12:50.380
[SPEAKER_01]: Then, in March 2012, she was involved in an escape plan with a fellow inmate from New Jersey.

12:50.920 --> 12:56.985
[SPEAKER_01]: The years passed and Pike's attorneys exhausted every possible appeal, but they would all be denied.

12:57.606 --> 13:00.608
[SPEAKER_01]: In her execution would be scheduled for September 30th, 2026.

13:02.680 --> 13:04.902
[SPEAKER_01]: However, something would go terribly wrong.

13:05.463 --> 13:10.468
[SPEAKER_01]: During the procedure, Pike was administered the first round of the lethal injection medication.

13:11.249 --> 13:13.972
[SPEAKER_01]: However, it didn't work and the curtain was closed.

13:14.513 --> 13:16.615
[SPEAKER_01]: She would then be injected with a second dose.

13:17.668 --> 13:29.273
[SPEAKER_01]: like the first, it would fail, causing the botch execution to last more than two hours, and Pike left making audible snoring and moaning sounds, even after the second attempt.

13:29.853 --> 13:39.878
[SPEAKER_01]: Now this led to federal public defenders filing an emergency appeal to end the execution and get Chris the Pike medical care, and she would be taken by an ambulance to a nearby hospital.

13:40.945 --> 13:51.953
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Tennessee's execution protocol allows for two attempts of lethal injection to be made, but there's nothing in that protocol that determines the next steps if both rounds fail.

13:52.913 --> 14:04.502
[SPEAKER_01]: Pike is currently on life support and being kept alive by a ventilator, and this is because per Tennessee law, the execution must be carried out at the prison and her life can't legally be ended off site.

14:05.559 --> 14:10.420
[SPEAKER_01]: Now it is important to know as well that this is not Tennessee's first botched execution.

14:11.240 --> 14:20.222
[SPEAKER_01]: In May of this year, the execution of Tony Carruthers was called off after the doctor tasked with the procedure was unable to find a vein for over an hour.

14:20.883 --> 14:27.064
[SPEAKER_01]: And it was later learned that the doctor and question hadn't placed an IV line in a patient in over a decade.

14:27.544 --> 14:31.845
[SPEAKER_01]: And following both failed execution attempts, the Tennessee Department of Corrections

14:35.086 --> 14:37.467
[SPEAKER_01]: So, what happens next is still uncertain?

14:38.007 --> 14:41.788
[SPEAKER_01]: Christopher Mike remains critically ill and is yet to regain consciousness.

14:42.268 --> 14:48.649
[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'll definitely keep you updated with anything that happens in this case, but to close it out, I have a lot of final thoughts.

14:48.890 --> 14:53.571
[SPEAKER_01]: So, as I mentioned at the top of the episode, I don't know if I would normally cover a case this way.

14:54.671 --> 14:58.012
[SPEAKER_01]: Usually, I try to come at the podcast with a narrative approach, but,

14:58.792 --> 15:05.721
[SPEAKER_01]: For some reason I felt that it was important to start with how Krista was raised and the things that she went through its a child and I want to be very clear.

15:06.462 --> 15:16.775
[SPEAKER_01]: I say that no way to excuse the terrible crime that she committed and what Krista Pike made Colleen endure is absolutely horrible and horrendous and inexcusable.

15:17.436 --> 15:23.344
[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think it is a good reminder that unresolved trauma and pain often lead to more of the same thing.

15:23.785 --> 15:29.953
[SPEAKER_01]: And I do believe that if Chris said had the support that she needed as a child, Colleen may have never lost her life.

15:30.153 --> 15:33.517
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is something that you wouldn't be listening to a podcast on.

15:34.038 --> 15:44.947
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, my daughter is about to be eight and I look at her and I see this innocence in her eyes because she has an endured the type of trauma that sadly so many other kids in the world have to go through.

15:45.707 --> 15:54.775
[SPEAKER_01]: And even though Christa committed such a terrible monstrous act, I still have a hard time not feeling bad for when I think about what she went through as a kid.

15:55.415 --> 15:59.519
[SPEAKER_01]: And the way that so many people who were supposed to keep her safe absolutely failed her.

16:00.319 --> 16:02.281
[SPEAKER_01]: But I also think about Colleen's family.

16:03.023 --> 16:12.330
[SPEAKER_01]: Her parents, her friends, people who love this bright girl with enormous potential and everything that was stolen, not only from Colleen, but from them.

16:13.283 --> 16:15.664
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's heartbreaking, Colleen never got to grow up.

16:16.025 --> 16:18.546
[SPEAKER_01]: She never got to fall in love or start a family.

16:19.066 --> 16:22.108
[SPEAKER_01]: And her parents were robbed of so many moments with their child.

16:22.508 --> 16:25.830
[SPEAKER_01]: So being a father, I find myself feeling for everyone involved.

16:26.150 --> 16:32.514
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean for everything that was taken from Colleen and her family to the abuse that Chris was forced to endure as a child.

16:32.554 --> 16:33.395
[SPEAKER_01]: And again,

16:34.375 --> 16:46.378
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to make sure I'm very clear, I do not think that what Crystal went through in any way excuses anything that she did and I do think that she deserved to be behind the walls of a prison for the rest of her life.

16:47.272 --> 16:49.312
[SPEAKER_01]: But I did want to touch on something else.

16:49.372 --> 16:55.414
[SPEAKER_01]: And for me, I think it's the fact that this case really confirmed my personal feelings on the death penalty.

16:55.734 --> 17:01.815
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, when I was researching this case, it was so easy to find all of this information on Christopher Pike.

17:02.375 --> 17:09.357
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it wasn't hard to find information on her childhood and her upbringing and all of the trauma that she endured.

17:09.417 --> 17:09.557
[SPEAKER_01]: But

17:10.477 --> 17:12.858
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't say the same thing about Colleen Slemmer.

17:13.639 --> 17:20.282
[SPEAKER_01]: It was so much harder to find information on who Colleen was and what she wanted to do with her life and what was her childhood like.

17:21.143 --> 17:25.525
[SPEAKER_01]: And I really think that it is because at some point the coverage of this case shifted.

17:26.125 --> 17:28.386
[SPEAKER_01]: And it wasn't about Colleen's murder anymore.

17:28.406 --> 17:32.308
[SPEAKER_01]: It was about Christopher being the youngest person on death row in Tennessee.

17:32.828 --> 17:37.350
[SPEAKER_01]: And then the years passed by and the story becomes updated and it's all about Christopher's appeals.

17:37.790 --> 17:41.852
[SPEAKER_01]: And how she was over sentenced and should be shown mercy in some kind of way.

17:42.292 --> 17:45.794
[SPEAKER_01]: Which, you know, by the way, mercy is something that she couldn't show Colleen.

17:46.654 --> 17:57.324
[SPEAKER_01]: And now it's 2026, and the stories become about the botched execution, with the details of what happened to Colleen being pushed down to the bottom of every story and article written about it.

17:57.924 --> 18:00.787
[SPEAKER_01]: And something about that sits with me in a really bad way.

18:00.807 --> 18:04.150
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'll say it, even this episode of the podcast.

18:04.710 --> 18:12.553
[SPEAKER_01]: I struggled with whether I should even cover the story for exactly that reason, but I ended up feeling like it was worth it to make this very point.

18:13.674 --> 18:30.300
[SPEAKER_01]: Set aside the fact that it's more expensive to execute someone, with capital cases typically costing us taxpayers, about two and a half to five times more than life imprisonment, or even the emotional aspect, I mean, Colleen's family very openly and adamantly supported

18:32.281 --> 18:46.627
[SPEAKER_01]: Just like I'm sure many people impacted by violent crime do and I can understand that, you know, I can understand why if someone's loved one was taken away from them, why you would want the person who did it to pay that ultimate price.

18:47.328 --> 18:53.871
[SPEAKER_01]: But I just can't get over the fact that this story now seems to be about Krista and not remembering Colleen.

18:54.691 --> 19:00.553
[SPEAKER_01]: And I really do think that had Christopheight just been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

19:01.093 --> 19:13.836
[SPEAKER_01]: The important thing people remembered about this case would be Colleen, the victim, the person who lost their life to a census act of violence and not the woman who killed her and whether or not she's going to wake up in the hospital.

19:14.256 --> 19:18.017
[SPEAKER_01]: And I promise this is by no means any kind of political take.

19:18.618 --> 19:22.739
[SPEAKER_01]: I know and am well aware that all sorts of people with all sorts of

19:23.699 --> 19:26.901
[SPEAKER_01]: views across the political spectrum, listen to this podcast.

19:26.921 --> 19:28.543
[SPEAKER_01]: I feel very, very lucky for that.

19:29.163 --> 19:40.311
[SPEAKER_01]: I take a lot of pride knowing that no matter what you may believe or support or we live in a very divisive world and I try very hard to make sure that this is a place.

19:40.832 --> 19:49.178
[SPEAKER_01]: Both when you listen to the show and if you remember the Facebook group or the community there, that it plays a very inclusive and we try to keep that stuff separate.

19:49.198 --> 19:51.540
[SPEAKER_01]: So I promise this is not me doing any kind

19:54.325 --> 20:15.630
[SPEAKER_01]: For me, this is about how the story has changed and not wanting Colleen to be forgotten in the coverage, because I think she's owed to be remembered, you know, not only for who she was, but who she could have been and the senseless act of violence that took her away from the people who loved her.

20:16.498 --> 20:18.819
[SPEAKER_01]: So, again, I know that was a lot.

20:19.200 --> 20:24.783
[SPEAKER_01]: This case just really had my wheels spinning, but if we're talking debble tests, this is gonna be a 10 out of 10 for me.

20:25.524 --> 20:37.411
[SPEAKER_01]: As I mentioned, as a parent, you think you're sending your child off somewhere to grow the skill set and something that they're passionate about, only for them to lose their life because of what should have been some normal teenage drama.

20:38.051 --> 20:43.875
[SPEAKER_01]: It was heartbreaking to think that Colleen's parents lost their child over what Christophe received us flirting.

20:44.680 --> 20:54.331
[SPEAKER_01]: you know, and then there's Chris's childhood and knowing that all of this may have been avoided if there was someone there who could have just helped Chris that when she needed it when she was young.

20:55.112 --> 20:59.276
[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, just to kind of think about the butterfly effect of it, right?

20:59.316 --> 20:59.476
[SPEAKER_01]: Like

21:00.356 --> 21:05.840
[SPEAKER_01]: if someone would have stepped in and she would have gotten help and support, how much different things would have been.

21:06.460 --> 21:15.205
[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think that the worst part of this is the story shifting and what happened to Colleen being overshadowed by everything that we're seeing in the news now.

21:16.326 --> 21:24.029
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, it's a 10 out of 10, but as always, I want to hear from you, the listener, the locksmiths, where does the murder of Colleen Slemmer fall on your deadbolt test?

21:24.109 --> 21:24.809

21:34.732 --> 21:36.433

21:37.093 --> 21:39.796
