[SPEAKER_01]: They only asked that if there were no other kids at her stop, she would walk an extra block to the next one, so Tabitha wouldn't be standing on the corner alone, and of course the girl agreed.

[SPEAKER_01]: Now Deborah would arrive home from work in around 130 that afternoon, expecting Tabitha home just a few hours later at around 4.

[SPEAKER_01]: Deborah tried not to panic thinking that Tabitha had just gone to a friend's house, so she called anyone that she could think of, but they all had the same answer.

[SPEAKER_01]: Bo would arrive home from work a little before 5pm, and by 6, the couple had contacted the Nashville Metro Police, reporting their daughter missing.

[SPEAKER_01]: It had now been roughly nine hours since Tabitha had last been seen, meaning that if someone had taken the girl, she could literally be in one of several other states at this point.

[SPEAKER_01]: So they began by executing a search within a five-mile radius of the family's home, checking both the Cumberland River and nearby Shelby Park.

[SPEAKER_01]: But the child could not tell if Tabitha had entered the vehicle willingly, or if she had been coerced in some way, leading investigators to believe that Tabitha had entered the car between the two bus stops.

[SPEAKER_01]: Detectives also learned that another witness had seen Tabitha walking in the same area, helping them to establish a definitive timeline for the morning that the teenager disappeared.

[SPEAKER_01]: So they turned back to the note found inside Tabitha's room, and they soon learned that the MTL they were looking for was the 18-year-old son of a longtime family friend.

[SPEAKER_01]: But when looking further into it, they learned that the young man was in school at the time of Tabitha's disappearance, and he too was quickly ruled out.

[SPEAKER_01]: It was at this time that a friend of Tabithas came forward, and she told investigators that she and the missing girl had recently gone to the East Nashville Library, using the computers there to sign into online chat rooms and talk with people.

[SPEAKER_01]: Investigators were able to locate the specific computer that was used and a forensic examination of the PC was done, hoping to find evidence of the chats.

[SPEAKER_01]: According to this woman who was a Nashville mother of two girls, detectives needed to look at a troubling man.

[SPEAKER_01]: She told police at seven years prior in 1996, David had taken an inappropriate interest in one of her children.

[SPEAKER_01]: The mother claimed that she had found her daughter speaking to Davis at school, and when she inquired as to why they were talking, the teen told her mother that his kids went to that same school, and that there was nothing to worry about.

[SPEAKER_01]: But shortly after this, the 13-year-old would run away, and when searching her room for clues, the mother found love letters written back and forth between Davis and the child.

[SPEAKER_01]: So the police got to work, looking into his background, and they found that Davis had a history of inappropriate relationships with underage girls.

[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, in 1997, he had been convicted of statutory rape and sentenced to five years probation.

[SPEAKER_01]: He would be brought in for questioning and investigators learned that he had been living in Kentucky only about three hours away.

[SPEAKER_01]: But even more suspiciously, Davis had visited Nashville around the time of Tabitha's disappearance, and he had been at a local market only a half-block away from the Tudor's home.
