00:09.135 --> 00:12.000
[SPEAKER_00]: Check the locks podcast is not appropriate for all listeners.

00:12.401 --> 00:14.445
[SPEAKER_00]: Listener discretion is strongly advised.

00:27.588 --> 00:35.869
[SPEAKER_01]: An argument over a Christmas bonus leads to the assault of an elderly woman, proving once and for all that the grinch is real and walks among us.

00:36.611 --> 00:40.641
[SPEAKER_01]: Join me, John Connor, as we discuss the case of Heather Nelson.

00:43.167 --> 00:45.192
[SPEAKER_01]: This is Check The Locks Podcast.

00:57.895 --> 01:02.844
[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, and thank you for joining me this week, as we dive into yet another truly terrifying true crime case.

01:03.385 --> 01:05.529
[SPEAKER_01]: This is our Christmas episode.

01:05.930 --> 01:20.376
[SPEAKER_01]: This is coming out only three days before Christmas, so I hope if you are listening, it has been a great holiday season for you so far, only a few more days, and then Christmas is officially over, so hope you've got your

01:20.356 --> 01:22.482
[SPEAKER_01]: give some to the tree, everything is wrapped.

01:22.822 --> 01:28.156
[SPEAKER_01]: I did want to give a special thank you to everybody in the Facebook group who shared their Christmas trees.

01:28.798 --> 01:36.137
[SPEAKER_01]: So awesome to see us come together as a community and just to kind of show off all the beautiful things that you have in your home.

01:36.117 --> 01:47.396
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's just really cool to see how members of this community celebrate the holiday with their families and and to see how warm those displays are and things like that.

01:47.516 --> 01:51.983
[SPEAKER_01]: So thank you so much for sharing and again, just.

01:51.963 --> 01:55.829
[SPEAKER_01]: letting our community kind of get a sneak peek and get to know each other a little bit better.

01:55.969 --> 01:58.313
[SPEAKER_01]: So super excited to go over this week's case.

01:58.373 --> 02:00.877
[SPEAKER_01]: I will tell you just because this is the holiday weekend.

02:01.258 --> 02:06.746
[SPEAKER_01]: I know we have people who have family in town or maybe we're spending a bunch of time cooking and things like that.

02:06.866 --> 02:09.951
[SPEAKER_01]: So with this week's case is not going to be super long.

02:10.392 --> 02:18.865
[SPEAKER_01]: However, I did want to make sure we put out an episode because it is Christmas and you know, maybe your family is just driving you crazy and you have to do that.

02:18.845 --> 02:36.820
[SPEAKER_01]: last minute target run to get a quick smoking and buy that that present to get out of the house or something like that or you know maybe there's just a lot going on in the kids are driving the crazy or maybe everybody's in a great moon everything's great you just wanted to listen to a true crime case so wanted to make sure that we put something out there and

02:36.800 --> 02:44.672
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I really wanted to use this opportunity just as a time to say, thank you so much as we wrap up the year and we're getting closer to New Year's.

02:45.172 --> 02:58.993
[SPEAKER_01]: I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you so much for listening to this podcast and supporting this podcast and I know that recently there has been a transition and you know, we're still kind of working through the changes and what the show is going to look like, but

02:58.973 --> 03:09.946
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't tell you how much it means to me that the listeners have stuck with us and have continued to support me in this and are still listening and leaving feedback and things like that.

03:10.086 --> 03:25.504
[SPEAKER_01]: So from the bottom of my heart, I just wanted to say thank you so much for that support and I really do hope that everyone has just an incredibly wonderful Christmas.

03:25.484 --> 03:29.810
[SPEAKER_01]: So lucky to have you as part of this family and as part of this community.

03:29.830 --> 03:31.272
[SPEAKER_01]: So really do appreciate you.

03:31.312 --> 03:33.035
[SPEAKER_01]: And I hope it's just a wonderful holiday.

03:33.055 --> 03:40.706
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, before we get into this week's case, I did just want to take a moment and read a Spotify comment from Kim on last week's episode.

03:40.786 --> 03:42.649
[SPEAKER_01]: The disappearance of Melissa Brandon.

03:43.109 --> 03:45.893
[SPEAKER_01]: If you had not listened to that episode, please pause this one.

03:45.933 --> 03:46.614
[SPEAKER_01]: Go back.

03:46.654 --> 03:47.796
[SPEAKER_01]: Listen to that.

03:48.535 --> 03:49.857
[SPEAKER_01]: I have to be very honest with you.

03:49.877 --> 03:52.700
[SPEAKER_01]: It was very hard for me to get through the research on that one.

03:53.140 --> 03:57.665
[SPEAKER_01]: It does really pull on your heartstrings and I definitely think it is worth a listen.

03:57.765 --> 03:59.407
[SPEAKER_01]: So please check that one out.

03:59.487 --> 04:04.793
[SPEAKER_01]: But Kim listen to that episode and she said, it's heartbreaking to know what this family went through.

04:05.194 --> 04:10.560
[SPEAKER_01]: But it's more heartbreaking to hear that this monster was released to prey on more innocent children.

04:10.540 --> 04:15.048
[SPEAKER_01]: I pray they keep him locked up this time, or he lives out the rest of his life behind bars.

04:15.549 --> 04:18.054
[SPEAKER_01]: And I could not agree with you more.

04:18.094 --> 04:23.865
[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully he does not get the same opportunity for parole or early release that he got before.

04:24.626 --> 04:31.519
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, if you want a little more context as to what that common is about and what we may be talking about, make sure you go back and listen to last week's episode.

04:31.499 --> 04:36.166
[SPEAKER_01]: But with that being said, we'll go ahead and jump into this week's case.

04:36.627 --> 04:37.849
[SPEAKER_01]: It's Christmas time, right?

04:37.909 --> 04:39.351
[SPEAKER_01]: And we've all seen the Grinch.

04:39.772 --> 04:43.137
[SPEAKER_01]: And we know that there are some particularly evil people out there.

04:43.197 --> 04:46.482
[SPEAKER_01]: And people who enjoy stealing holiday joy from others.

04:46.643 --> 04:48.686
[SPEAKER_01]: And so that's what we're going to talk about this week.

04:48.746 --> 04:50.048
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's go ahead and jump on into it.

04:50.549 --> 04:56.578
[SPEAKER_01]: This week, we're starting our story on Christmas Eve 2024 in Brevard County, Florida.

04:56.558 --> 05:01.405
[SPEAKER_01]: 29-year-old Heather Nelson was working as a caregiver to an 83-year-old woman.

05:02.207 --> 05:07.675
[SPEAKER_01]: By all accounts, the two had a good relationship, and the elderly woman seemed to trust Nelson very much.

05:08.396 --> 05:11.000
[SPEAKER_01]: But on that Christmas, there would be a dark change.

05:11.822 --> 05:21.857
[SPEAKER_01]: According to the victim, Nelson decided that she had worked hard that year and deserved a holiday bonus, and she demanded that the woman that she cared for pay her an extra $500.

05:21.837 --> 05:27.643
[SPEAKER_01]: When the senior citizen told Nelson that she couldn't afford to pay her in the extra, the conversation termed physical.

05:28.284 --> 05:32.608
[SPEAKER_01]: With Nelson wrestling the woman's checkbook from her hand, nearly breaking her wrist.

05:33.569 --> 05:37.253
[SPEAKER_01]: Nelson then proceeded to write herself a stolen check for $1,400.

05:38.874 --> 05:41.017
[SPEAKER_01]: But this holiday green wasn't done just yet.

05:41.697 --> 05:49.245
[SPEAKER_01]: She also stole the elderly woman's credit cards, which she would later use to pay her rent as well as making several other purchases.

05:49.613 --> 05:57.689
[SPEAKER_01]: Nelson then decided to rob others of their holiday cheer, sealing Christmas cards that her victim had planned on sending out to friends and family.

05:58.490 --> 06:02.458
[SPEAKER_01]: These cards include a cash and checks intended for those recipients.

06:03.339 --> 06:10.373
[SPEAKER_01]: Once the Ordeal was over, the elderly victim contacted the police and informed them of the theft in the assault that had taken place.

06:10.589 --> 06:14.282
[SPEAKER_01]: On January 7th, 2025, Heather Nelson was arrested.

06:14.944 --> 06:21.426
[SPEAKER_01]: She would be charged with robbery, forgery, and aggravated battery on someone over the age of 65.

06:21.828 --> 06:35.482
[SPEAKER_01]: Luckily, the victim only suffered a badly bruised wrist, and my favorite part of this story is that the Brevard County Sheriff's Office got to have some fun with the press release announcing Nelson's arrest, writing, damn Grinch you went too far.

06:36.262 --> 06:40.506
[SPEAKER_01]: I guess committing battery and almost breaking the risk of an elderly victim wasn't bad enough.

06:41.147 --> 06:46.492
[SPEAKER_01]: So you decide to steal all her money and take Christmas gifts that were meant for others away as well?

06:46.993 --> 06:49.135
[SPEAKER_01]: What's next?

06:49.435 --> 06:50.717
[SPEAKER_01]: the press release continued.

06:51.438 --> 06:56.286
[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, since you were so worried about getting your bonus, we had some extra gifts for you.

06:56.867 --> 07:08.645
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it keeps a booking photo, a slightly used pair of shower glides, and unlimited access to our world-famous one-star dining facility, where you can enjoy absolutely nothing, you eat.

07:09.306 --> 07:16.658
[SPEAKER_01]: Which I have to say, I think this is my favorite press where these ever is definitely my favorite of anything we've ever covered on the show.

07:16.638 --> 07:30.237
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I've yet to find anything related to trial or sentencing, but I will definitely keep an eye out for any updates, because I have to know more about this Grinch, who totally screwed to herself, by trying to take advantage of an elderly woman.

07:31.258 --> 07:33.121
[SPEAKER_01]: So, that's this week's case.

07:33.461 --> 07:38.748
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, definitely wanted to stay on the Christmas theme, since this is the last Christmas episode, and I know it is a little bit lighter.

07:38.828 --> 07:45.177
[SPEAKER_01]: Thankfully, nobody was hurt, but I did want to share some of my final thoughts here, just to wrap everything up.

07:45.393 --> 07:47.396
[SPEAKER_01]: no pun intended, you know, Christmas wrapping.

07:47.556 --> 08:08.042
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, we'll go ahead and bring it down, but I am so happy that not only was Nelson arrested, but publicly shamed in this way through that press release because it is, it's a case of.

08:09.271 --> 08:12.977
[SPEAKER_01]: I know I'm stronger than you, I can take what I want from you, and I'm just going to do that.

08:13.437 --> 08:16.843
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's taking advantage of an elderly woman, someone who can't fight back.

08:16.923 --> 08:21.991
[SPEAKER_01]: It is literally the equivalent of somebody, you know, punching a baby for an ice cream code.

08:22.531 --> 08:25.837
[SPEAKER_01]: It's, she can't defend herself, it's not a fair flight, right?

08:25.897 --> 08:28.060
[SPEAKER_01]: And you just decide you're going to take what you want.

08:28.380 --> 08:34.570
[SPEAKER_01]: Not only are you going to take what you want from this person, but you're going to take what you want that prevent other people from getting

08:34.550 --> 08:38.015
[SPEAKER_01]: Christmas gifts and holiday cheer and things that nature as well.

08:38.155 --> 08:45.685
[SPEAKER_01]: So the fact that not only was she arrested, but she was actually put on blast, I mean, it just makes my heart happy.

08:45.705 --> 08:49.771
[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like the Grinch for my heart has grown two sizes reading that that press release.

08:50.111 --> 08:54.437
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you want to read the whole release, I didn't link it in the sources in the description.

08:54.457 --> 08:56.760
[SPEAKER_01]: This episode is definitely worth the read.

08:57.044 --> 09:21.094
[SPEAKER_01]: So please check that out, but all I can help thing in, you know, my grandmother passed not too long going, I know I've talked about that on the show, but I think about somebody doing this to a family member of mine, you know, and it would be so infuriating and it would, I mean, it would just be devastating to know that somebody that you're supposed to trust, who's in your house, who's helping to take care of your loved one,

09:21.530 --> 09:27.398
[SPEAKER_01]: Just decides one day that they're going to do a complete 180 and again, just take advantage of him is pretty scary.

09:27.438 --> 09:31.343
[SPEAKER_01]: So I will say, this isn't going to rate super high on the deadbolt test.

09:31.923 --> 09:34.086
[SPEAKER_01]: I would probably put this, you know, probably about a four.

09:34.807 --> 09:42.357
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, the only reason for that is just thinking about having a family member loved one who would have to go through this situation that that's frightening.

09:42.337 --> 09:45.021
[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, nobody was seriously injured.

09:45.963 --> 09:46.965
[SPEAKER_01]: Nelson was caught.

09:46.985 --> 09:49.429
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, nothing too scary.

09:49.449 --> 09:52.433
[SPEAKER_01]: But it, again, definitely fits the holiday theme.

09:53.155 --> 10:02.229
[SPEAKER_01]: And like I said, with it being Christmas, I wanted to do something a little bit lighter that, you know, maybe you could have in the background with a family around and not freaking anybody out if they're not true crime heads like that.

10:02.330 --> 10:02.590
[SPEAKER_01]: So,

10:02.570 --> 10:14.913
[SPEAKER_01]: For me, this is going to come in at a four on the deadbolt test, but as always, I want to hear from you, the listeners, the locksmiths, where does the case of Heather Nelson, the Grinch of Brevard County Florida, fall on your deadbolt test?

[SPEAKER_01]: Just know it's things like that that really mean the world.

11:22.537 --> 11:25.840
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, it's all about finding new listeners and bringing members into our community.

11:32.446 --> 11:34.789
