02:11.857 --> 02:17.606
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you so much for joining me as I break down the details if you had another truly terrifying true con case.

02:18.106 --> 02:21.492
[SPEAKER_00]: Before we get into that though, I just wanted to take a moment and say welcome to 2026.

02:21.592 --> 02:25.698
[SPEAKER_00]: This is the very first episode of this new year.

02:26.079 --> 02:27.781
[SPEAKER_00]: And I am super excited to be here.

02:27.821 --> 02:32.388
[SPEAKER_00]: It cannot wait to see what this year has in store for the podcast.

02:32.408 --> 02:38.237
[SPEAKER_00]: And for our community, I am just really looking forward to the great things that this year is going to bring.

02:38.217 --> 02:42.643
[SPEAKER_00]: I do hope that you and your family had a wonderful New Year's holiday.

02:42.683 --> 02:47.689
[SPEAKER_00]: I know for us, we got together with some friends, smashed on some Chinese food.

02:47.709 --> 02:48.870
[SPEAKER_00]: It was really cool.

02:48.910 --> 02:51.494
[SPEAKER_00]: We let the kids watch the ball drop on the East Coast.

02:51.514 --> 02:54.177
[SPEAKER_00]: So here in Tennessee, we got to do our New Year's about 11.

02:54.197 --> 02:58.082
[SPEAKER_00]: And then we made a home and time for the central time.

02:58.062 --> 03:00.485
[SPEAKER_00]: ball drop, and then got to watch some fireworks.

03:00.505 --> 03:01.306
[SPEAKER_00]: So it was a lot of fun.

03:01.366 --> 03:02.308
[SPEAKER_00]: It was a good time.

03:02.368 --> 03:08.215
[SPEAKER_00]: Just, you know, super fun watching the kids run around and play together, and they all had their foe champagne.

03:08.276 --> 03:09.898
[SPEAKER_00]: They're sparkling grape juice.

03:09.958 --> 03:11.860
[SPEAKER_00]: So it was a lot of fun.

03:11.920 --> 03:13.462
[SPEAKER_00]: Really cool to see them.

03:13.543 --> 03:14.304
[SPEAKER_00]: Have such a great time.

03:14.324 --> 03:17.087
[SPEAKER_00]: I think this was the first year for Millie that it really registered.

03:17.107 --> 03:17.708
[SPEAKER_00]: Like,

03:17.688 --> 03:19.312
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, this is a big deal.

03:19.974 --> 03:25.587
[SPEAKER_00]: So far, you know, in the first couple of days in the month, she keeps saying, yeah, but dad, I did that last year in 2025.

03:26.509 --> 03:33.326
[SPEAKER_00]: So I think the concept of the year changing is something that she's kind of gripping now that she's going a little bit older.

03:33.386 --> 03:33.807
[SPEAKER_00]: But,

03:33.787 --> 03:37.994
[SPEAKER_00]: I hope that, you know, for you, your loved ones, your friends, you all had a great holiday.

03:38.014 --> 03:38.875
[SPEAKER_00]: I hope you were safe.

03:39.416 --> 03:41.540
[SPEAKER_00]: I know a lot of people went out and did some fun stuff.

03:41.600 --> 03:44.986
[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, again, hopefully, it was just a great time for you.

03:45.306 --> 03:49.393
[SPEAKER_00]: And I am super excited to jump into this week's episode.

03:49.814 --> 03:50.855
[SPEAKER_00]: I do have to tell you all.

03:50.895 --> 03:51.496
[SPEAKER_00]: This is one.

03:51.757 --> 03:53.199
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to be very up front, honest with you.

03:53.259 --> 03:55.423
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a very long case.

03:55.403 --> 04:10.108
[SPEAKER_00]: But the reason I wanted to do this one particularly is because I think that listening to it, we may have a lot of listeners who may kind of have a connection or some similarity is in their own personal life.

04:10.589 --> 04:19.544
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm really excited for the conversation piece after this, to see if maybe you've ever been in a similar situation or run into anything like this.

04:19.704 --> 04:20.145
[SPEAKER_00]: So

04:20.125 --> 04:24.193
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, just super happy to be here for you for the first episode of 2026.

04:25.976 --> 04:28.060
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go ahead and quit the Gabby Gabby.

04:28.441 --> 04:33.831
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get into the Stabby Stabby and let's break down this week's episode.

04:34.047 --> 04:37.251
[SPEAKER_00]: But before I do, I just wanted to take a moment to give everyone a heads up.

04:37.311 --> 04:41.036
[SPEAKER_00]: I am going to be playing some audio from a security camera in this episode.

04:41.697 --> 04:48.486
[SPEAKER_00]: And there is some homophobic and coarse language as well as some violence.

04:48.666 --> 04:51.710
[SPEAKER_00]: So just wanted to give everyone kind of a trigger warning.

04:52.991 --> 04:54.794
[SPEAKER_00]: I just didn't want you to come and do a blind.

04:55.555 --> 04:56.676
[SPEAKER_00]: So just keep that in mind.

04:56.957 --> 04:59.320
[SPEAKER_00]: If we get to that part, you may want to do a little fast forwarding.

04:59.420 --> 05:02.704
[SPEAKER_00]: But with that being said, now let's get into the episode.

05:02.971 --> 05:05.414
[SPEAKER_00]: Wilkesbury, Pennsylvania, is a small city.

05:05.855 --> 05:15.046
[SPEAKER_00]: With a population of around 44,000 people, it served as a regional hub in northeastern Pennsylvania while still maintaining the feel of a smaller community.

05:15.867 --> 05:20.213
[SPEAKER_00]: And in the suburbs of Wilkesbury, it often feels as if everyone knows each other.

05:20.954 --> 05:23.417
[SPEAKER_00]: Westburg Street had that exact vibe.

05:24.138 --> 05:28.523
[SPEAKER_00]: A suburban street where children played and the neighbors looked out for each other.

05:28.807 --> 05:34.595
[SPEAKER_00]: In 2021, one of those neighbors was 47-year-old Jeffrey Allen Spade.

05:35.536 --> 05:36.978
[SPEAKER_00]: Spade was born in 1973.

05:37.479 --> 05:49.515
[SPEAKER_00]: He had graduated from Wilkes University with a bachelor's in environmental engineering, as well as a master's degree in water resources and environmental engineering from Villanova University.

05:49.917 --> 05:59.814
[SPEAKER_00]: Spade had also served in the United States Navy, working as a ship board engineering technician, and he had recently moved into a home on the quiet suburban street.

06:00.755 --> 06:05.363
[SPEAKER_00]: Now maybe it was Spade's time in the Navy, but he was very particular about his home.

06:06.105 --> 06:09.731
[SPEAKER_00]: He was meticulous about the upkeep and he liked things to be tidy.

06:10.793 --> 06:14.018
[SPEAKER_00]: Spade kept himself and was known as an introvert.

06:14.133 --> 06:19.982
[SPEAKER_00]: But the couple directly across the street, James and Lisa Goe, were the exact opposite.

06:20.884 --> 06:30.619
[SPEAKER_00]: The couple would host parties and tended to get loud and accordion neighbors, they could be a little obnoxious, often spatting with the people who lived on either side of them.

06:31.520 --> 06:36.408
[SPEAKER_00]: The Goeys could be loud and intimidating with many seeing them as the neighborhood bullies.

06:37.129 --> 06:40.815
[SPEAKER_00]: And they were very particular about their parking specifically.

06:40.998 --> 06:46.086
[SPEAKER_00]: The couple owned two personal vehicles and James Goi would often bring his work vehicle home.

06:47.047 --> 06:59.226
[SPEAKER_00]: When the Goi's believed that someone was messing with their parking spot, they could be confrontational, yelling at anyone who dared to take one of their spaces while having no concerns about taking someone else's spot.

06:59.290 --> 07:05.339
[SPEAKER_00]: But Jeffrey Spade wasn't easily intimidated, and he had no problem standing up to James and Lisa Goy.

07:06.080 --> 07:10.206
[SPEAKER_00]: Because of this, then probably there are totally different personality types.

07:10.727 --> 07:13.792
[SPEAKER_00]: The neighbors found themselves at odds with each other quite often.

07:14.773 --> 07:19.280
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, according to people in neighborhood, this made Spade a target of the Goyce.

07:20.001 --> 07:25.129
[SPEAKER_00]: With James Hurling insults and homophobic slurs that his neighbor across the street.

07:25.413 --> 07:30.020
[SPEAKER_00]: and tensions between the neighbors were growing with a literal storm brewing.

07:30.841 --> 07:37.551
[SPEAKER_00]: You see, at the end of January 2021, a giant blizzard dumped snow all over the city of Wilkesbury.

07:38.152 --> 07:43.860
[SPEAKER_00]: And on the morning of February 1st, the animosity between the neighbors would turn deadly.

07:44.009 --> 07:49.841
[SPEAKER_00]: You see that morning, Jeffrey Spaded woke up early, heading outside to clear the snow from his driveway.

07:50.723 --> 07:58.980
[SPEAKER_00]: A short while later, the goys emerge from their home, shovels and hang-in, ready to clear the snow from their driveway and parking spots.

07:59.450 --> 08:05.997
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, apparently, to make room for their vehicles, the Goys began dumping the shoveled snow on the Spades property.

08:06.738 --> 08:10.602
[SPEAKER_00]: This caused Jeffery to become extremely angry and an argument to break out.

08:11.162 --> 08:24.977
[SPEAKER_01]: With the entire incident being caught on the Goys home security camera.

08:24.997 --> 08:25.417
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, the shot is done.

08:25.437 --> 08:25.537
[SPEAKER_01]: What?

08:25.557 --> 08:25.738
[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.

08:25.758 --> 08:25.938
[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.

08:25.958 --> 08:26.138
[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.

08:26.158 --> 08:26.338
[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.

08:26.358 --> 08:26.538
[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.

08:26.558 --> 08:26.739
[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.

08:26.759 --> 08:26.939
[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.

08:26.959 --> 08:27.139
[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.

08:27.159 --> 08:27.339
[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.

08:27.359 --> 08:27.539
[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.

08:27.559 --> 08:27.740
[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.

08:27.760 --> 08:27.940
[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.

08:27.960 --> 08:28.140
[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.

08:29.740 --> 08:35.828
[SPEAKER_01]: Call me, it's going to blow your step down, you're all my command, sir.

08:35.848 --> 08:41.515
[SPEAKER_00]: As the expletive-filled argument continued, Jeffrey Spade could be seen running up his driveway and into his garage.

08:42.396 --> 08:45.420
[SPEAKER_00]: Only to re-emerge shortly after a holding a handgun.

08:46.501 --> 08:57.115
[SPEAKER_00]: As Spade approached the couple, Lisa Goy could be heard taunting him, telling him to go ahead before the sound of gunfire echo through the neighborhood on that quiet winter morning.

08:59.137 --> 09:28.418
[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he's got a gun, he

09:32.009 --> 09:40.618
[SPEAKER_00]: Geoffrey Spade fired four rounds while the noise continued to stand in the streets, undeterred by the gunfire, but Spade was not done.

09:41.419 --> 09:44.743
[SPEAKER_00]: He would strike Lisa Goye, causing her to fall bleeding in the street.

09:45.563 --> 09:49.788
[SPEAKER_00]: James Goye was also struck in the long and proceeded to retreat up the couple's driveway.

09:50.889 --> 10:01.240
[SPEAKER_00]: In the video, Spade can be seen approaching Lisa Goye, firing in additional two rounds at close range, before proceeding up the driveway, also shooting

10:01.507 --> 10:07.135
[SPEAKER_00]: Then, Jeffrey Spade walked across the street and up his driveway, disappearing into his garage again.

10:07.175 --> 10:14.046
[SPEAKER_00]: Now in the video, neighbors can be seen trying to help, with a teenager approaching yelling call 911.

10:14.967 --> 10:18.652
[SPEAKER_00]: James and Lisa Goi were badly injured, but they were both alive.

10:19.414 --> 10:28.527
[SPEAKER_00]: And as the neighbors attempted to make sense of what was happening, Jeffrey Spade came out of his home again.

10:28.507 --> 10:37.726
[SPEAKER_00]: Bystanders fled as spade again approached Lisa going in the street, telling her she should have kept her mouth shut before he fired at point blank range.

10:38.367 --> 10:43.577
[SPEAKER_00]: And like before, he walked up the voice driveway firing at James and killing him.

10:44.259 --> 10:46.223
[SPEAKER_00]: The couple executed in the street.

10:47.385 --> 10:49.890
[SPEAKER_00]: Then the quiet of winter.

10:50.073 --> 10:54.046
[SPEAKER_00]: While neighbors in witnesses called the police, Jeffrey Spade returned to his home.

10:54.990 --> 11:03.137
[SPEAKER_00]: State troopers would be the first to arrive, and as they exited their patrol cars and prepared to enter Spade's home, another shot was heard.

11:03.556 --> 11:11.245
[SPEAKER_00]: Jeffrey Spade had taken his own life, ending the tragic ordeal that would leave three dead and a community shocked and broken.

11:12.026 --> 11:19.976
[SPEAKER_00]: Since the tragic events, many of argued about just who exactly is to blame for the horrific scene that took place that cold February morning.

11:20.737 --> 11:27.785
[SPEAKER_00]: With some arguing that Spade was pushed to his breaking point, while others say that he was just looking for an opportunity to kill.

11:28.566 --> 11:32.871
[SPEAKER_00]: But most agree, they wished the story would have had a different ending.

11:49.608 --> 12:12.334
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's this week's case, and Jeb wrap it up, I did wanna share some final thoughts, just because, as I had mentioned at the top of the episode, I do think this is one of those stories where, even though this ended in such a violent and horrific way, I do think there are elements of this case that are easily relatable to, you know, I think everyone can kind of relate to having that nightmare neighbor situation, right?

12:12.394 --> 12:17.640
[SPEAKER_00]: Having neighbors that you don't get along with, I'll just share when I was, you know, a kid growing up,

12:18.042 --> 12:22.713
[SPEAKER_00]: the neighbors next door a lot of the time our families had a little bit of beef between them.

12:22.733 --> 12:27.084
[SPEAKER_00]: I remember, you know, there was a kid over there that was my age.

12:27.144 --> 12:28.267
[SPEAKER_00]: We were in the same grade.

12:28.868 --> 12:35.123
[SPEAKER_00]: He would come over knocking the door and ask if I could come out to play and then as soon as I came out the side door, he would sucker punch me in the stomach.

12:35.103 --> 12:41.411
[SPEAKER_00]: He jumped me my way home from school knowing that we live right next door to each other.

12:41.451 --> 12:52.526
[SPEAKER_00]: They're dog bit my sister, so needless to say my parents weren't always thrilled with his parents and there was a lot of yelling over the fence and fighting and stuff like that.

12:52.586 --> 12:57.472
[SPEAKER_00]: It was just a very hectic and chaotic situation a lot of the times.

12:57.852 --> 13:01.397
[SPEAKER_00]: And as we grew up, we kind of grew out of those things and

13:01.377 --> 13:29.815
[SPEAKER_00]: thing simmer down and you know my mom actually got to be pretty good friends with the woman next door and you know that kind of all went to history but I think that again this is something that a lot of people can relate to just having those neighbors that you just can't seem to get along with and it kind of sucks when that's the case because what are you supposed to do right you you're not going to sell your house because you don't like the person who

13:29.795 --> 13:30.797
[SPEAKER_00]: to get to that point.

13:31.479 --> 13:37.050
[SPEAKER_00]: And I would argue in this case, it did get not only that bad, but much worse.

13:37.251 --> 13:39.716
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, maybe that's something that should have been considered.

13:40.658 --> 13:47.893
[SPEAKER_00]: But this is just one of those cases that because of the way that it ended, it just really breaks your heart to a certain extent.

13:48.434 --> 13:49.997
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there was just so much

13:50.872 --> 14:15.040
[SPEAKER_00]: volatility between the the the goi's and and Jeffrey spade and it could have ended in in such a different way, right, if they could have only found some way to meet in the middle, you know, and iron out these differences, and instead they had to continue to to egg each other on and and to, you know, I don't know, it's just hard.

14:15.200 --> 14:17.503
[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to look at this because.

14:18.749 --> 14:24.136
[SPEAKER_00]: This is one of those cases where it's hard to look at and say, well, this is specifically the victim, right?

14:24.697 --> 14:28.061
[SPEAKER_00]: At the end of the day, do I think the goys deserve to lose their life?

14:28.842 --> 14:29.583
[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely not.

14:30.064 --> 14:33.588
[SPEAKER_00]: Do I think that, you know, Jeffrey Spade had reached a breaking point?

14:34.109 --> 14:34.790
[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.

14:35.511 --> 14:36.532
[SPEAKER_00]: And so it's just sad.

14:36.572 --> 14:39.456
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like two meteorites colliding.

14:39.676 --> 14:46.765
[SPEAKER_00]: It's two opposing forces that are unwilling to give and because of that and ended in this violent and horrific way.

14:46.745 --> 14:55.338
[SPEAKER_00]: And then I think about the people that lived on this block, you know, people who watched their children play together and, you know, have this sense of community.

14:55.879 --> 14:58.824
[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I didn't mention this as we went through.

14:58.844 --> 15:03.431
[SPEAKER_00]: I know I had mentioned that, you know, neighbors came to check, but these neighbors were teenage boys.

15:03.631 --> 15:04.513
[SPEAKER_00]: It was a snow day.

15:04.573 --> 15:07.437
[SPEAKER_00]: It's quiet in the morning, you know, they're home.

15:07.417 --> 15:08.839
[SPEAKER_00]: hanging out, watching TV.

15:09.540 --> 15:12.283
[SPEAKER_00]: And then you hear these shots being fired so close.

15:12.784 --> 15:16.428
[SPEAKER_00]: And these teenage boys run out and stumble upon the scene.

15:16.508 --> 15:24.779
[SPEAKER_00]: So to think about the impact that it must have had on the community and the family's living on the street, it's just devastating.

15:25.319 --> 15:35.652
[SPEAKER_00]: And again, to think that this could have all been avoided if someone was just willing on either side to be like,

15:36.273 --> 15:46.549
[SPEAKER_00]: So for me, somebody this, I'm not the kind of person who is gonna taunt my neighbors or would respond in this way if my neighbors taunted me.

15:47.450 --> 15:59.288
[SPEAKER_00]: So in this case, I would probably put this case at about a four as far as am I worried about this happening to me, but a 10 at how stunned I am.

15:59.789 --> 16:02.112
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, again, we played the audio,

16:02.328 --> 16:07.436
[SPEAKER_00]: in the show, right, to think that Spade came out and fired four rounds without hitting anybody.

16:07.476 --> 16:14.507
[SPEAKER_00]: And he was still being taunted, like the moment of gun comes out, I'm like, okay, I've gone too far.

16:14.567 --> 16:19.154
[SPEAKER_00]: This guy's obviously had his breaking point, but the guy's continued, right?

16:19.174 --> 16:29.770
[SPEAKER_00]: There were so upset about what was going on and there was so much animosity that nobody could just step away and say, like, hey, we need to cool down the temperature.

16:30.897 --> 16:33.982
[SPEAKER_00]: level of violence and how shocking this is.

16:34.022 --> 16:37.608
[SPEAKER_00]: Why I'm not worried about something like this happening to me, I would definitely put this at a 10.

16:38.169 --> 16:44.379
[SPEAKER_00]: But as always, I want to hear from you, the listeners, the locksmiths, where does this case fall on your devil test?
