00:12.432 --> 00:14.336

00:45.471 --> 00:49.052

00:49.112 --> 00:56.175
[SPEAKER_01]: As always, I'm John Connor saying thank you for joining us this week as we dive in to yet another truly terrifying bite-sized true crime case.

00:56.615 --> 01:03.738
[SPEAKER_01]: Before we get started, you may notice again it is a John only episode, uh, Olivia and I had a little bit of a schedule conflict.

01:03.778 --> 01:05.899
[SPEAKER_01]: She just got home from her camping trip.

01:06.619 --> 01:10.004
[SPEAKER_01]: And my wife and I actually had a concert to go to tonight.

01:10.384 --> 01:19.716
[SPEAKER_01]: We went and saw a band called Taking Back Sunday with another band that I love called Coheed in Canberra, and it is currently 12-10 in the morning.

01:20.297 --> 01:21.438
[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know,

01:22.119 --> 01:43.785
[SPEAKER_01]: even though we had the scheduling conflict definitely want to make sure that we're not missing the episode so please bear with me if i'm coming through with a little late night energy uh but it is you know technically early morning so uh gonna rock out a case for you uh found this one to be very very interesting it just happened and it is a little shocking uh at how brazen

01:44.685 --> 02:00.790
[SPEAKER_01]: this person is so we'll break it down a little bit more as we get into the story but again hope all of y'all had a great week and I do promise I feel like I've been saying a lot but Olivia will be back with us next week businesses usual she does have some more travel coming up I believe in

02:01.810 --> 02:06.972
[SPEAKER_01]: like towards the end of September, but we're going to get back into that regular groove, why she's here.

02:07.052 --> 02:08.512
[SPEAKER_01]: So thank you for bearing with us.

02:09.392 --> 02:17.095
[SPEAKER_01]: I know, you know, if you're somebody who listens to this podcast and you really like a living, and I do in these things together, I am in that club as well.

02:17.435 --> 02:25.778
[SPEAKER_01]: So I really appreciate you hanging in with me, why we do some of these solo episodes, just to make sure again that, you know, we're not missing them because I love putting the content out there.

02:26.158 --> 02:27.978
[SPEAKER_01]: I love hearing what you think about the cases.

02:28.578 --> 02:30.399
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to make sure that we get it out because, you know,

02:30.559 --> 02:32.020
[SPEAKER_01]: The listeners are the most important part.

02:32.200 --> 02:35.903
[SPEAKER_01]: So again, thank you for the patience and hanging in there with us.

02:37.424 --> 02:38.425
[SPEAKER_01]: Hope you all have a great week.

02:38.465 --> 02:39.626
[SPEAKER_01]: Hope it's been a good one for you.

02:39.686 --> 02:42.808
[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll quit the Gabby Gabby Get to the Stabby Stabby.

02:42.908 --> 02:44.089
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's break it on down.

02:44.669 --> 02:48.632
[SPEAKER_01]: For this week, short on time case, we're headed to Jefferson County, Illinois.

02:49.333 --> 02:55.917
[SPEAKER_01]: On the night of September 1st, so just a few days ago, local police received a report of a potential slaying.

02:56.778 --> 03:03.641
[SPEAKER_01]: The caller shared that he had spoken to a suspect and had gotten the quote, strong indication that a murder had taken place.

03:04.562 --> 03:10.404
[SPEAKER_01]: The suspect's name was provided to police along with the description of the vehicle, a gray 2007 Ford Escape.

03:13.097 --> 03:24.606
[SPEAKER_01]: Officers immediately began searching for the vehicle involved in the report, and shortly after 9pm, an officer spotted the car and began to follow it from a distance, waiting for backup to arrive.

03:25.447 --> 03:31.772
[SPEAKER_01]: Eventually, a felony stop would be done, and when investigators approached the vehicle, they were shocked at what they found.

03:32.692 --> 03:39.057
[SPEAKER_01]: In the driver's seat was 51-year-old John Finney, but occupying the hatchback area was the

03:41.479 --> 03:46.381
[SPEAKER_01]: She would later be identified as 42-year-old Amy Finney, John's wife.

03:47.341 --> 03:54.804
[SPEAKER_01]: However, it did not seem as she had been murdered inside the vehicle, so investigators secured a search warrant for the Finney home.

03:55.804 --> 04:04.568
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, evidence gathered at the residence indicated that a domestic dispute had taken place, and at some point during the argument, John had shot his wife.

04:05.447 --> 04:11.818
[SPEAKER_01]: He then loaded Amy's body into his car, driving around for hours with her lifeless body inside the vehicle.

04:13.000 --> 04:19.931
[SPEAKER_01]: Authorities also learned that the couple hadn't actually been married that long, but they did have a history of domestic violence dispute.

04:21.181 --> 04:24.243
[SPEAKER_01]: John Finney was taken to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

04:24.723 --> 04:28.605
[SPEAKER_01]: He was questioned and eventually charged with the first remerter of his wife.

04:29.485 --> 04:38.110
[SPEAKER_01]: A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for September 10, 2025, and a petition to deny his pretrial release has already been filed.

04:38.953 --> 04:43.357
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, this story is definitely bizarre, so I am going to make sure to keep an eye out for any updates.

04:43.798 --> 04:51.144
[SPEAKER_01]: But just as a reminder, if you're listening to this and you're experiencing domestic abuse, just know that help is available.

04:51.585 --> 04:54.647
[SPEAKER_01]: You can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233.

04:54.668 --> 04:55.128
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, that's 800-799-7233.

05:04.016 --> 05:21.532
[SPEAKER_01]: You can also text the word begin, that's B-E-G-I-N, to 8-8-7-8-8, again, that's the word begin, B-E-G-I-N, to 8-8-7-8-8, and just know that there are resources available to you.

05:22.650 --> 05:26.613
[SPEAKER_01]: But that's this piece of case and let's go ahead and jump into initial thought.

05:26.734 --> 05:32.659
[SPEAKER_01]: So as I mentioned in the beginning of this podcast, I went to a concert tonight with my wife.

05:32.959 --> 05:35.001
[SPEAKER_01]: And I had absolutely the best time.

05:35.161 --> 05:43.768
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, my mother-in-law was nice enough to come and watch the kid and take her to gymnastics so that my wife and I could go to this concert and just have a good time.

05:43.808 --> 05:44.949
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, my wife...

05:45.810 --> 05:48.611
[SPEAKER_01]: is my best friend in a whole lot of ways.

05:49.251 --> 05:58.435
[SPEAKER_01]: And I cannot imagine ever getting so angry that I would physically hurt her let alone kill her, right?

05:58.995 --> 06:01.716
[SPEAKER_01]: So these kind of cases always kind of blow my mind.

06:02.476 --> 06:06.117
[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that, you know, not everybody is wired like me, right?

06:06.137 --> 06:07.078
[SPEAKER_01]: People have anger issues,

06:08.675 --> 06:26.890
[SPEAKER_01]: you know all sorts of things that kind of factor into who they are and and what role they play in a relationship but anytime we do a case like this you know I know Olivia's not here but I have to kind of echo her thinking like right just break up separate right you don't have to kill each other so to think that

06:27.855 --> 06:38.079
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Amy and John gotten to this fight and she lost her life and then she's just being chauffeered around, uh, it's just odd and strange.

06:38.119 --> 06:42.381
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, I just can't imagine, you know, ever hurting my spouse.

06:42.641 --> 06:42.961
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, so.

06:45.252 --> 06:46.533
[SPEAKER_01]: It just something doesn't sit right.

06:46.613 --> 06:49.034
[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like there's a level of mental illness.

06:49.074 --> 06:57.639
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, somebody who is not suffering from mental illness wouldn't just be like, well, let me put her body in the car and just drive around with it for hours.

06:58.599 --> 07:05.283
[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, there's definitely some more stuff going on under the surface, especially with him having a history of domestic violence.

07:06.743 --> 07:13.387
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to be very, very interested to find out what plays out and what further information that we get because

07:14.994 --> 07:18.055
[SPEAKER_01]: I need to know what happened in the house that night.

07:18.095 --> 07:20.076
[SPEAKER_01]: That's really what I'm hoping to get.

07:20.296 --> 07:26.619
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think for my deadbolt test perspective, for me, I would probably put this about in eight.

07:27.200 --> 07:38.905
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, I've talked about it before, you know, if you listen to this podcast, I know I get repetitive with some of my ratings and the reasons, but I get, I think that's just because some things get under my skin in certain kinds of ways, but

07:39.705 --> 07:53.905
[SPEAKER_01]: for me this would be an eight just because when you marry somebody like that's the person that you're supposed to trust right like that's your go to that's your rock and to think that you would marry somebody who is capable of taking your life.

07:54.086 --> 07:55.868
[SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately we we see it a lot.

07:56.489 --> 08:09.980
[SPEAKER_01]: but you know it's just it's scary and I think it just goes to show that you never really know the person right you you try your best and you hope that you do and you hope that inside they present the way that they do outside but

08:10.860 --> 08:14.222
[SPEAKER_01]: You just never can truly tell what's inside of a person.

08:14.882 --> 08:19.485
[SPEAKER_01]: And in some cases, especially in case like Amy's, you end up losing your life.

08:19.946 --> 08:21.947
[SPEAKER_01]: And then you think about Amy's family, right?

08:22.027 --> 08:24.548
[SPEAKER_01]: Like parents lost a daughter.

08:25.309 --> 08:32.013
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I don't know much just because they haven't really released a whole lot, but you know, she had any siblings.

08:32.073 --> 08:33.494
[SPEAKER_01]: Now their sibling has gone, right?

08:33.534 --> 08:35.715
[SPEAKER_01]: So this is one of those things that we talked about before, where,

08:38.737 --> 08:42.800
[SPEAKER_01]: a husband is murdered a wife, but that also ripples out of effects so many people.

08:42.921 --> 08:52.048
[SPEAKER_01]: So for me, again, I'm going to put this at night, but as always, I want to hear from you, the listeners, the locksmiths, where does the murder of Amy Finney fall on your devil test?

09:33.000 --> 09:35.304
[SPEAKER_01]: just to be 100% honest, I'm going to need some help.

09:35.404 --> 09:44.718
[SPEAKER_01]: I might need somebody in the group who would want to help facilitate maybe keep, you know, spreadsheet and be responsible for sending out those alerts.

09:44.738 --> 09:48.003
