00:09.135 --> 00:12.000

00:12.401 --> 00:14.445
[SPEAKER_02]: Listener discretion is strongly advised.
00:25.124 --> 00:31.615
[SPEAKER_00]: shoppers at an Illinois mall were busy going about their day, not knowing that they were actively being hunted.
00:32.436 --> 00:36.503
[SPEAKER_00]: And chaos ensued when a woman with a mental illness attacked blindly.
00:37.364 --> 00:43.214
[SPEAKER_00]: Join me, John Connor, as we discuss the case of Caitlyn A. Harman.
00:43.234 --> 00:45.377
[SPEAKER_00]: This is Check The Locks Podcast.
00:57.524 --> 01:02.070
[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, and thank you for joining me as I dive into yet another truly terrifying true crime case.
01:02.450 --> 01:08.017
[SPEAKER_00]: Before we get started, I just wanted to take a moment and express my gratitude for your patience with this episode being a little bit late.
01:08.537 --> 01:22.114
[SPEAKER_00]: Last week, I had recorded the entire episode, got everything processed, and then when I went to listen through it, there was a glitch in the audio that was just causing it to crackle in all these weird places, and I wasn't sure exactly what was going on.
01:22.094 --> 01:27.542
[SPEAKER_00]: So by the time I was able to fix it, I know that I put out on Facebook that this was going to come out later in the week.
01:28.003 --> 01:34.372
[SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, by the time I was able to fix it, we were looking at Sunday, and so I just decided to hold off and put this out today.
01:34.532 --> 01:36.815
[SPEAKER_00]: So again, thank you so much for your patience.
01:37.476 --> 01:47.511
[SPEAKER_00]: You know that I truly do hate to miss any episodes or have anything delayed, so I really appreciate you hanging in there with me, and I am very excited to jump into the case this week.
01:47.963 --> 01:51.106
[SPEAKER_00]: Before we do, as always, I hope that you're having a wonderful week.
01:51.326 --> 01:53.348
[SPEAKER_00]: I hope it's been a great last two weeks for you.
01:53.448 --> 01:57.793
[SPEAKER_00]: I know that just being honest with you right now, the world seems a little bit crazy.
01:58.293 --> 02:08.683
[SPEAKER_00]: And so I am very happy that I get to be part of your day and that you'll listen and let me hang out with you because there's just a lot going on in the world that it can feel a little overwhelming.
02:09.124 --> 02:15.490
[SPEAKER_00]: So the fact that I get to do this podcast for our amazing community is something that do not take for granted.
02:15.470 --> 02:20.220
[SPEAKER_00]: hope everything is going well with ya hope life is going good whatever it is you're doing.
02:20.942 --> 02:22.325
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for letting me hang out with ya.
02:22.946 --> 02:26.714
[SPEAKER_00]: With that being said, we'll go ahead and kind of discuss what we're going to be breaking down this week.
02:26.795 --> 02:31.966
[SPEAKER_00]: So this is a little bit of a shorter case and I do have to let you know if you're someone who's listened for a long time.
02:32.006 --> 02:33.850
[SPEAKER_00]: This kind of harkens back.
02:34.133 --> 02:54.370
[SPEAKER_00]: a little bit to those short on time episodes, and you know, I haven't really done much of those since Olivia left, and it has been just me, but this case I came across when I was doing research and looking for things to cover on the show, and I have to tell you, this unlocked a new kind of fear in me, and I was like, I have to talk about this on the podcast.
02:54.350 --> 03:00.178
[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, it just is something that for some reason really got under my skin and it just happened a few weeks ago.
03:00.579 --> 03:07.008
[SPEAKER_00]: So it is a developing story, uh, you know, something that I'll talk about a little bit later, but we're going to keep an eye on this one.
03:07.589 --> 03:11.514
[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, but I'm very interested to hear what the listeners and the locksmiths think.
03:11.574 --> 03:13.837
[SPEAKER_00]: So with that being said, I'm going to go ahead.
03:13.938 --> 03:16.862
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll quit the Gabby Gabby get to the stabby stabby.
03:17.182 --> 03:19.986
[SPEAKER_00]: We will go ahead and jump into this week's case.
03:19.966 --> 03:25.439
[SPEAKER_00]: On February 2, 2026, Illinois Police were dispatched to the Gernie Mills Mall.
03:26.281 --> 03:34.802
[SPEAKER_00]: According to the caller, a Toyota Camry had allegedly struck a 79-year-old man and a six-year-old woman in a Hobby Lobby parking lot.
03:35.137 --> 03:39.323
[SPEAKER_00]: When police viewed the security footage, they witnessed something truly disturbing.
03:40.165 --> 03:47.636
[SPEAKER_00]: The driver appeared to accelerate and aim the vehicle directly at the elderly man, who at the time was standing behind his park car.
03:48.457 --> 03:53.124
[SPEAKER_00]: Now when he was struck, his body literally flew through the air before landing on the ground.
03:54.026 --> 04:02.258
[SPEAKER_00]: He would be severely injured, left bloody, and coming in and out of consciousness, and it would later be determined that he had suffered from a brain bleed.
04:02.626 --> 04:04.790
[SPEAKER_00]: The driver then turned down the next aisle.
04:04.830 --> 04:11.803
[SPEAKER_00]: The second victim heard the previous crash and she told police that she had turned to see a speeding car headed straight forward.
04:12.845 --> 04:17.955
[SPEAKER_00]: The woman jumped up on the curb, but she was still struck in the leg, leaving her with a minor injury.
04:18.997 --> 04:23.385
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, both victims would be hospitalized and the driver fled the scene.
04:24.125 --> 04:33.437
[SPEAKER_00]: The police continued to search the area for their suspect, and about now or later, another citizen flagged down an officer at a barbecue restaurant near the Hobby Lobby.
04:34.638 --> 04:37.642
[SPEAKER_00]: According to the witness, they had seen a physical altercation.
04:38.543 --> 04:46.173
[SPEAKER_00]: Police then made contact with a 30-year-old male victim, and upon speaking with him, they noticed he had several stab wounds to the hand.
04:47.194 --> 04:52.140
[SPEAKER_00]: According to the man, he had been singing his car when a woman approached holding a large butcher knife.
04:53.285 --> 04:59.393
[SPEAKER_00]: The attacker began knocking on the window with the blade, and when the man didn't exit the vehicle, she stabbed the front tire.
04:59.433 --> 05:03.619
[SPEAKER_00]: The victim then got out of the car in the attacker lunched toward him.
05:04.359 --> 05:11.749
[SPEAKER_00]: Now fortunately, the man was able to wrestle the knife away from the woman and pin her to the ground, holding her there until the authorities arrived.
05:12.690 --> 05:22.363
[SPEAKER_00]: Once detectives got there, they ordered the two to break it up, and that is when the woman
05:22.478 --> 05:28.648
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, the male victim suffered multiple defensive wounds to his hand in the process, and the woman was arrested at the scene.
05:29.249 --> 05:33.215
[SPEAKER_00]: She would later be identified as 25-year-old Caitlyn A. Harman.
05:34.036 --> 05:48.098
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, detectives would question her about the attacks later, and according to Harman, she had traveled from Wisconsin to Illinois with the sole intent of committing premeditated murder, telling investigators that she had, quote,
05:48.517 --> 05:52.905
[SPEAKER_00]: As the investigation continued, authorities made another startling discovery.
05:53.326 --> 06:01.000
[SPEAKER_00]: After Harman struck her first two victims, she parked behind a barbecue restaurant near a panera bread, waiting for the police to find her.
06:01.681 --> 06:10.677
[SPEAKER_00]: And while sitting in her canary, she made a chilling video that she would upload to Facebook.
06:11.922 --> 06:13.626
[SPEAKER_01]: I guess I'll start at the caps.
06:13.646 --> 06:14.468
[SPEAKER_01]: God always wins.
06:15.010 --> 06:19.661
[SPEAKER_01]: Here's a, I'm not saying this pinnure red where next to the green mill, so I'm gonna check all the caps in me.
06:20.423 --> 06:25.335
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that was a good person, and I'm homeless, so apparently, the good people don't win anymore.
06:25.575 --> 06:26.758
[SPEAKER_00]: Nope, still not.
06:27.093 --> 06:30.477
[SPEAKER_00]: In the video, Harming can be seen holding a large butcher knife.
06:31.117 --> 06:36.023
[SPEAKER_00]: She pans around the car displaying her smash windshield from her first set of violent attacks.
06:36.844 --> 06:41.889
[SPEAKER_00]: And when the police never found her vehicle, she got out and approached the man sitting in his car.
06:42.610 --> 06:54.163
[SPEAKER_00]: Now Harming has been charged with attempted murder, failure to report a crash, aggravated battery slash great bodily harm, and aggravated battery with use of a deadly weapon.
06:54.143 --> 07:03.958
[SPEAKER_00]: She appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday, February 4th, and during the preliminary hearing, prosecutors played the judge five separate videos from the incident.
07:04.619 --> 07:11.089
[SPEAKER_00]: They also focused on Harman's interview after her arrest in which she admitted to wanting to kill someone that day.
07:11.069 --> 07:21.950
[SPEAKER_00]: They also played a portion of the interview where detectives told Harman that there were resources for people who are currently unhoused, to which Harman laughed and responded, Oh, I'm not getting out of here.
07:22.491 --> 07:23.633
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not getting out of here.
07:24.074 --> 07:24.835
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll do it again.
07:24.855 --> 07:25.917
[SPEAKER_00]: I need help.
07:27.199 --> 07:34.393
[SPEAKER_00]: Harman was ordered to be detained in the late County jail, with a judge noting that her intention to kill someone was clear.
07:34.424 --> 07:45.312
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, obviously this is a developing story, and as I mentioned at the top of the show, a new fear has definitely been unlocked for me, so rest assured, I will definitely keep an eye out for any updates.
08:00.597 --> 08:03.685
[SPEAKER_00]: but that's this week's case, so let's jump into some final thoughts.
08:03.705 --> 08:10.021
[SPEAKER_00]: So I know that I've talked about this before, but these cases where it's just random events are absolutely terrifying to me.
08:10.622 --> 08:12.868
[SPEAKER_00]: And especially with this one,
08:13.051 --> 08:21.287
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, the top of the episode, it really got under my skin because there are so many times where I'm getting out of the car with my daughter, right?
08:21.327 --> 08:34.333
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to public, so we got to run an air in real quick and we're just getting out doing some quick shopping and we're getting out of the car and we're walking and I'm always super diligent, especially when I have her with me just because, you know,
08:34.313 --> 08:40.907
[SPEAKER_00]: I know that I try to be as safe of a driver as I can and try to pay attention as well as I can, but I know not everybody does that same thing, right?
08:40.927 --> 08:50.888
[SPEAKER_00]: You're filming with your radio or, you know, you're calling when you shouldn't be something that, so I'm always hyper-vigilant because the idea of an accident terrifies me.
08:50.868 --> 09:04.371
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, take the idea of an accident throw that out of the window and it's somebody who's just going through a parking lot looking for people to mow down and you just happen to be at that mall or that grocery store that day.
09:04.520 --> 09:07.845
[SPEAKER_00]: that is truly, truly terrifying.
09:08.245 --> 09:17.598
[SPEAKER_00]: So as soon as I researched this case, I saw the headline pop up, I was just like, I gotta talk about this one because I know for me this is terribly, terribly unsettling.
09:17.698 --> 09:30.375
[SPEAKER_00]: Just again, the idea that you're just like, yep, I just got my pizza rolls and my paper plates and you know, whatever I'm getting that I only say that because I literally went to the grocery store and got those things this week, but you know, you're just coming to the aisle,
09:30.929 --> 09:35.033
[SPEAKER_00]: looking to put your stuff in your car and then you just get smoked.
09:35.594 --> 09:42.761
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, luckily in this case, nobody died, which I'm so thankful for, but Harmon was definitely there to murder someone.
09:43.442 --> 09:46.766
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that comes through very clearly in the video.
09:46.786 --> 09:55.755
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you don't just sit in a car holding a butcher knife showing off your smashed windshield in the glass everywhere.
09:55.735 --> 09:59.602
[SPEAKER_00]: when you're not intentionally there looking to take somebody's life.
09:59.702 --> 10:07.778
[SPEAKER_00]: And thankfully, she was not successful, but I'm telling you, I will link that video in the description, the episode that you're listening to.
10:07.818 --> 10:10.903
[SPEAKER_00]: It is, there's just something chilling about it.
10:11.545 --> 10:14.991
[SPEAKER_00]: And you can definitely tell that it's someone struggling with a mental illness.
10:15.712 --> 10:19.279
[SPEAKER_00]: And again, this is just one of those things where
10:19.546 --> 10:21.589
[SPEAKER_00]: It just freaked me out.
10:21.669 --> 10:28.418
[SPEAKER_00]: And then to think about this gentleman who, you know, probably just got something to eat at Panera, the barbecue restaurant, he's just hanging out in this car.
10:28.759 --> 10:32.384
[SPEAKER_00]: And then all of a sudden you look up and there's a woman with a butcher knife that's like, get out of the car.
10:33.065 --> 10:35.268
[SPEAKER_00]: And when you don't listen, they slash your tires.
10:35.869 --> 10:38.533
[SPEAKER_00]: I would just be like, what is happening right now?
10:38.753 --> 10:40.155
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what world am I living in?
10:40.696 --> 10:48.186
[SPEAKER_00]: So again, it's the fact that it is so random and you could literally just be out minding your own business and end up being the victim of someone like this.
10:48.166 --> 11:02.229
[SPEAKER_00]: So for me, this really did creep me out, uh, I would absolutely 110% put this at a 10, uh, but as always, I want to hear from you, the listeners, the locksmiths, where does Caitlyn Harman fall on your devil test?
11:02.249 --> 11:08.419
[SPEAKER_00]: Please let me know, reach out on Instagram, check the locks pod, come on me on Twitter, check the locks, and if you're not in our Facebook group,
11:08.399 --> 11:09.260
[SPEAKER_00]: What the heck are you doing?
11:09.320 --> 11:10.041
[SPEAKER_00]: Come hang out with us.
11:10.101 --> 11:18.814
[SPEAKER_00]: We would absolutely love to hear from you, love to get your perspective on some of these cases and just love to have you be part of the best community on the internet.
11:18.914 --> 11:22.059
[SPEAKER_00]: So if that is you, you're interested in joining the group.
11:22.079 --> 11:29.750
[SPEAKER_00]: There is a link in the description, the episode that you're listening to now, please click that link answer the few questions and we would absolutely love to have you.
11:29.790 --> 11:33.495
[SPEAKER_00]: And speaking of the community, I did just want to take a moment because
11:33.475 --> 11:55.247
[SPEAKER_00]: I got a Spotify comment that really did mean a lot to me and I wanted to take a minute just to read it because for those of you who've been listening for a long time, I did this podcast with Olivia, my wonderful co-host Olivia Cornew for literal gears, and she had to step away for school and other responsibilities, and
11:55.227 --> 12:05.960
[SPEAKER_00]: It was one of those things where I was like, I'm going to keep doing it, but I really do hope that people still like it and still listen to it and it was one of those things where you're just not sure it's something new when you don't know what's going to happen.
12:06.401 --> 12:12.749
[SPEAKER_00]: So I wanted to take a moment and just read this Spotify comment that I got because it really did mean a lot to me that it was left.
12:12.789 --> 12:24.103
[SPEAKER_00]: So this is from someone named Gabs to extra on Spotify and they left this comment on our stolen from a sleepover episode, but they said I love this podcast even better now that you're just doing it.
12:24.083 --> 12:27.911
[SPEAKER_00]: You're very likable and seem like a really cool dude, your work is dope.
12:28.192 --> 12:28.673
[SPEAKER_00]: Keep it up.
12:29.214 --> 12:30.477
[SPEAKER_00]: So I just wanted to take a moment.
12:30.798 --> 12:35.528
[SPEAKER_00]: It just made my heart so happy to know that people are still listening and still liking it.
12:35.708 --> 12:39.597
[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, maybe I know it's different, but maybe it's likable in a different way.
12:39.637 --> 12:41.080
[SPEAKER_00]: So gaps to extra.
12:41.060 --> 12:45.427
[SPEAKER_00]: Just wanted to take a second to say thank you for taking the time to leave that Spotify comment.
12:45.467 --> 12:46.589
[SPEAKER_00]: It really does mean a lot.
12:47.009 --> 12:55.663
[SPEAKER_00]: And as always, if you want to leave some feedback on an episode or what you think of the show or did I miss something and anything like that, please, there's a couple different ways you can do that.
12:55.743 --> 12:57.186
[SPEAKER_00]: You can leave us a Spotify comment.
12:57.206 --> 12:58.127
[SPEAKER_00]: We always love those.
12:58.508 --> 13:01.973
[SPEAKER_00]: The Apple Podcast reviews are always wonderful as well.
13:02.374 --> 13:06.240
[SPEAKER_00]: You can even send an email to contacts at checkthaloxpod.com.
13:06.661 --> 13:08.063
[SPEAKER_00]: I would love to hear from you.
13:08.043 --> 13:14.335
[SPEAKER_00]: I try to be as active in that email as I possibly can make sure that we're corresponding in the best way that we can.
13:14.455 --> 13:21.930
[SPEAKER_00]: So again, just want to say thank you for the feedback and if you want to leave some I would love to hear from you.
13:22.591 --> 13:25.256
[SPEAKER_00]: And as always, if you like what we do, you want to help support the show.
13:25.336 --> 13:27.300
[SPEAKER_00]: You can do so by becoming a patron.
13:27.280 --> 13:28.522
[SPEAKER_00]: head over to patreon.com.
13:28.542 --> 13:29.484

[SPEAKER_02]: Check the locks podcast is not appropriate for all listeners.
00:12.401 --> 00:14.445
[SPEAKER_02]: Listener discretion is strongly advised.
00:25.124 --> 00:31.615
[SPEAKER_00]: shoppers at an Illinois mall were busy going about their day, not knowing that they were actively being hunted.
00:32.436 --> 00:36.503
[SPEAKER_00]: And chaos ensued when a woman with a mental illness attacked blindly.
00:37.364 --> 00:43.214
[SPEAKER_00]: Join me, John Connor, as we discuss the case of Caitlyn A. Harman.
00:43.234 --> 00:45.377
[SPEAKER_00]: This is Check The Locks Podcast.
00:57.524 --> 01:02.070
[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, and thank you for joining me as I dive into yet another truly terrifying true crime case.
01:02.450 --> 01:08.017
[SPEAKER_00]: Before we get started, I just wanted to take a moment and express my gratitude for your patience with this episode being a little bit late.
01:08.537 --> 01:22.114
[SPEAKER_00]: Last week, I had recorded the entire episode, got everything processed, and then when I went to listen through it, there was a glitch in the audio that was just causing it to crackle in all these weird places, and I wasn't sure exactly what was going on.
01:22.094 --> 01:27.542
[SPEAKER_00]: So by the time I was able to fix it, I know that I put out on Facebook that this was going to come out later in the week.
01:28.003 --> 01:34.372
[SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, by the time I was able to fix it, we were looking at Sunday, and so I just decided to hold off and put this out today.
01:34.532 --> 01:36.815
[SPEAKER_00]: So again, thank you so much for your patience.
01:37.476 --> 01:47.511
[SPEAKER_00]: You know that I truly do hate to miss any episodes or have anything delayed, so I really appreciate you hanging in there with me, and I am very excited to jump into the case this week.
01:47.963 --> 01:51.106
[SPEAKER_00]: Before we do, as always, I hope that you're having a wonderful week.
01:51.326 --> 01:53.348
[SPEAKER_00]: I hope it's been a great last two weeks for you.
01:53.448 --> 01:57.793
[SPEAKER_00]: I know that just being honest with you right now, the world seems a little bit crazy.
01:58.293 --> 02:08.683
[SPEAKER_00]: And so I am very happy that I get to be part of your day and that you'll listen and let me hang out with you because there's just a lot going on in the world that it can feel a little overwhelming.
02:09.124 --> 02:15.490
[SPEAKER_00]: So the fact that I get to do this podcast for our amazing community is something that do not take for granted.
02:15.470 --> 02:20.220
[SPEAKER_00]: hope everything is going well with ya hope life is going good whatever it is you're doing.
02:20.942 --> 02:22.325
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for letting me hang out with ya.
02:22.946 --> 02:26.714
[SPEAKER_00]: With that being said, we'll go ahead and kind of discuss what we're going to be breaking down this week.
02:26.795 --> 02:31.966
[SPEAKER_00]: So this is a little bit of a shorter case and I do have to let you know if you're someone who's listened for a long time.
02:32.006 --> 02:33.850
[SPEAKER_00]: This kind of harkens back.
02:34.133 --> 02:54.370
02:54.350 --> 03:00.178
[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, it just is something that for some reason really got under my skin and it just happened a few weeks ago.
03:00.579 --> 03:07.008
[SPEAKER_00]: So it is a developing story, uh, you know, something that I'll talk about a little bit later, but we're going to keep an eye on this one.
03:07.589 --> 03:11.514
[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, but I'm very interested to hear what the listeners and the locksmiths think.
03:11.574 --> 03:13.837
[SPEAKER_00]: So with that being said, I'm going to go ahead.
03:13.938 --> 03:16.862
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll quit the Gabby Gabby get to the stabby stabby.
03:17.182 --> 03:19.986
[SPEAKER_00]: We will go ahead and jump into this week's case.
03:19.966 --> 03:25.439
[SPEAKER_00]: On February 2, 2026, Illinois Police were dispatched to the Gernie Mills Mall.
03:26.281 --> 03:34.802
[SPEAKER_00]: According to the caller, a Toyota Camry had allegedly struck a 79-year-old man and a six-year-old woman in a Hobby Lobby parking lot.
03:35.137 --> 03:39.323
[SPEAKER_00]: When police viewed the security footage, they witnessed something truly disturbing.
03:40.165 --> 03:47.636
[SPEAKER_00]: The driver appeared to accelerate and aim the vehicle directly at the elderly man, who at the time was standing behind his park car.
03:48.457 --> 03:53.124
[SPEAKER_00]: Now when he was struck, his body literally flew through the air before landing on the ground.
03:54.026 --> 04:02.258
[SPEAKER_00]: He would be severely injured, left bloody, and coming in and out of consciousness, and it would later be determined that he had suffered from a brain bleed.
04:02.626 --> 04:04.790
[SPEAKER_00]: The driver then turned down the next aisle.
04:04.830 --> 04:11.803
[SPEAKER_00]: The second victim heard the previous crash and she told police that she had turned to see a speeding car headed straight forward.
04:12.845 --> 04:17.955
[SPEAKER_00]: The woman jumped up on the curb, but she was still struck in the leg, leaving her with a minor injury.
04:18.997 --> 04:23.385
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, both victims would be hospitalized and the driver fled the scene.
04:24.125 --> 04:33.437
[SPEAKER_00]: The police continued to search the area for their suspect, and about now or later, another citizen flagged down an officer at a barbecue restaurant near the Hobby Lobby.
04:34.638 --> 04:37.642
[SPEAKER_00]: According to the witness, they had seen a physical altercation.
04:38.543 --> 04:46.173
[SPEAKER_00]: Police then made contact with a 30-year-old male victim, and upon speaking with him, they noticed he had several stab wounds to the hand.
04:47.194 --> 04:52.140
[SPEAKER_00]: According to the man, he had been singing his car when a woman approached holding a large butcher knife.
04:53.285 --> 04:59.393
[SPEAKER_00]: The attacker began knocking on the window with the blade, and when the man didn't exit the vehicle, she stabbed the front tire.
04:59.433 --> 05:03.619
[SPEAKER_00]: The victim then got out of the car in the attacker lunched toward him.
05:04.359 --> 05:11.749
[SPEAKER_00]: Now fortunately, the man was able to wrestle the knife away from the woman and pin her to the ground, holding her there until the authorities arrived.
05:12.690 --> 05:22.363
[SPEAKER_00]: Once detectives got there, they ordered the two to break it up, and that is when the woman
05:22.478 --> 05:28.648
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, the male victim suffered multiple defensive wounds to his hand in the process, and the woman was arrested at the scene.
05:29.249 --> 05:33.215
[SPEAKER_00]: She would later be identified as 25-year-old Caitlyn A. Harman.
05:34.036 --> 05:48.098
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, detectives would question her about the attacks later, and according to Harman, she had traveled from Wisconsin to Illinois with the sole intent of committing premeditated murder, telling investigators that she had, quote,
05:48.517 --> 05:52.905
[SPEAKER_00]: As the investigation continued, authorities made another startling discovery.
05:53.326 --> 06:01.000
[SPEAKER_00]: After Harman struck her first two victims, she parked behind a barbecue restaurant near a panera bread, waiting for the police to find her.
06:01.681 --> 06:10.677
[SPEAKER_00]: And while sitting in her canary, she made a chilling video that she would upload to Facebook.
06:11.922 --> 06:13.626
[SPEAKER_01]: I guess I'll start at the caps.
06:13.646 --> 06:14.468
[SPEAKER_01]: God always wins.
06:15.010 --> 06:19.661
[SPEAKER_01]: Here's a, I'm not saying this pinnure red where next to the green mill, so I'm gonna check all the caps in me.
06:20.423 --> 06:25.335
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that was a good person, and I'm homeless, so apparently, the good people don't win anymore.
06:25.575 --> 06:26.758
[SPEAKER_00]: Nope, still not.
06:27.093 --> 06:30.477
[SPEAKER_00]: In the video, Harming can be seen holding a large butcher knife.
06:31.117 --> 06:36.023
[SPEAKER_00]: She pans around the car displaying her smash windshield from her first set of violent attacks.
06:36.844 --> 06:41.889
[SPEAKER_00]: And when the police never found her vehicle, she got out and approached the man sitting in his car.
06:42.610 --> 06:54.163
[SPEAKER_00]: Now Harming has been charged with attempted murder, failure to report a crash, aggravated battery slash great bodily harm, and aggravated battery with use of a deadly weapon.
06:54.143 --> 07:03.958
[SPEAKER_00]: She appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday, February 4th, and during the preliminary hearing, prosecutors played the judge five separate videos from the incident.
07:04.619 --> 07:11.089
[SPEAKER_00]: They also focused on Harman's interview after her arrest in which she admitted to wanting to kill someone that day.
07:11.069 --> 07:21.950
[SPEAKER_00]: They also played a portion of the interview where detectives told Harman that there were resources for people who are currently unhoused, to which Harman laughed and responded, Oh, I'm not getting out of here.
07:22.491 --> 07:23.633
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not getting out of here.
07:24.074 --> 07:24.835
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll do it again.
07:24.855 --> 07:25.917
[SPEAKER_00]: I need help.
07:27.199 --> 07:34.393
[SPEAKER_00]: Harman was ordered to be detained in the late County jail, with a judge noting that her intention to kill someone was clear.
07:34.424 --> 07:45.312
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, obviously this is a developing story, and as I mentioned at the top of the show, a new fear has definitely been unlocked for me, so rest assured, I will definitely keep an eye out for any updates.
08:00.597 --> 08:03.685
[SPEAKER_00]: but that's this week's case, so let's jump into some final thoughts.
08:03.705 --> 08:10.021
[SPEAKER_00]: So I know that I've talked about this before, but these cases where it's just random events are absolutely terrifying to me.
08:10.622 --> 08:12.868
[SPEAKER_00]: And especially with this one,
08:13.051 --> 08:21.287
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, the top of the episode, it really got under my skin because there are so many times where I'm getting out of the car with my daughter, right?
08:21.327 --> 08:34.333
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to public, so we got to run an air in real quick and we're just getting out doing some quick shopping and we're getting out of the car and we're walking and I'm always super diligent, especially when I have her with me just because, you know,
08:34.313 --> 08:40.907
[SPEAKER_00]: I know that I try to be as safe of a driver as I can and try to pay attention as well as I can, but I know not everybody does that same thing, right?
08:40.927 --> 08:50.888
[SPEAKER_00]: You're filming with your radio or, you know, you're calling when you shouldn't be something that, so I'm always hyper-vigilant because the idea of an accident terrifies me.
08:50.868 --> 09:04.371
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, take the idea of an accident throw that out of the window and it's somebody who's just going through a parking lot looking for people to mow down and you just happen to be at that mall or that grocery store that day.
09:04.520 --> 09:07.845
[SPEAKER_00]: that is truly, truly terrifying.
09:08.245 --> 09:17.598
[SPEAKER_00]: So as soon as I researched this case, I saw the headline pop up, I was just like, I gotta talk about this one because I know for me this is terribly, terribly unsettling.
09:17.698 --> 09:30.375
[SPEAKER_00]: Just again, the idea that you're just like, yep, I just got my pizza rolls and my paper plates and you know, whatever I'm getting that I only say that because I literally went to the grocery store and got those things this week, but you know, you're just coming to the aisle,
09:30.929 --> 09:35.033
[SPEAKER_00]: looking to put your stuff in your car and then you just get smoked.
09:35.594 --> 09:42.761
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, luckily in this case, nobody died, which I'm so thankful for, but Harmon was definitely there to murder someone.
09:43.442 --> 09:46.766
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that comes through very clearly in the video.
09:46.786 --> 09:55.755
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you don't just sit in a car holding a butcher knife showing off your smashed windshield in the glass everywhere.
09:55.735 --> 09:59.602
[SPEAKER_00]: when you're not intentionally there looking to take somebody's life.
09:59.702 --> 10:07.778
[SPEAKER_00]: And thankfully, she was not successful, but I'm telling you, I will link that video in the description, the episode that you're listening to.
10:07.818 --> 10:10.903
[SPEAKER_00]: It is, there's just something chilling about it.
10:11.545 --> 10:14.991
[SPEAKER_00]: And you can definitely tell that it's someone struggling with a mental illness.
10:15.712 --> 10:19.279
[SPEAKER_00]: And again, this is just one of those things where
10:19.546 --> 10:21.589
[SPEAKER_00]: It just freaked me out.
10:21.669 --> 10:28.418
[SPEAKER_00]: And then to think about this gentleman who, you know, probably just got something to eat at Panera, the barbecue restaurant, he's just hanging out in this car.
10:28.759 --> 10:32.384
[SPEAKER_00]: And then all of a sudden you look up and there's a woman with a butcher knife that's like, get out of the car.
10:33.065 --> 10:35.268
[SPEAKER_00]: And when you don't listen, they slash your tires.
10:35.869 --> 10:38.533
[SPEAKER_00]: I would just be like, what is happening right now?
10:38.753 --> 10:40.155
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what world am I living in?
10:40.696 --> 10:48.186
[SPEAKER_00]: So again, it's the fact that it is so random and you could literally just be out minding your own business and end up being the victim of someone like this.
10:48.166 --> 11:02.229
[SPEAKER_00]: So for me, this really did creep me out, uh, I would absolutely 110% put this at a 10, uh, but as always, I want to hear from you, the listeners, the locksmiths, where does Caitlyn Harman fall on your devil test?
11:02.249 --> 11:08.419
[SPEAKER_00]: Please let me know, reach out on Instagram, check the locks pod, come on me on Twitter, check the locks, and if you're not in our Facebook group,
11:08.399 --> 11:09.260
[SPEAKER_00]: What the heck are you doing?
11:09.320 --> 11:10.041
[SPEAKER_00]: Come hang out with us.
11:10.101 --> 11:18.814
[SPEAKER_00]: We would absolutely love to hear from you, love to get your perspective on some of these cases and just love to have you be part of the best community on the internet.
11:18.914 --> 11:22.059
[SPEAKER_00]: So if that is you, you're interested in joining the group.
11:22.079 --> 11:29.750
[SPEAKER_00]: There is a link in the description, the episode that you're listening to now, please click that link answer the few questions and we would absolutely love to have you.
11:29.790 --> 11:33.495
[SPEAKER_00]: And speaking of the community, I did just want to take a moment because
11:33.475 --> 11:55.247
[SPEAKER_00]: I got a Spotify comment that really did mean a lot to me and I wanted to take a minute just to read it because for those of you who've been listening for a long time, I did this podcast with Olivia, my wonderful co-host Olivia Cornew for literal gears, and she had to step away for school and other responsibilities, and
11:55.227 --> 12:05.960
[SPEAKER_00]: It was one of those things where I was like, I'm going to keep doing it, but I really do hope that people still like it and still listen to it and it was one of those things where you're just not sure it's something new when you don't know what's going to happen.
12:06.401 --> 12:12.749
[SPEAKER_00]: So I wanted to take a moment and just read this Spotify comment that I got because it really did mean a lot to me that it was left.
12:12.789 --> 12:24.103
[SPEAKER_00]: So this is from someone named Gabs to extra on Spotify and they left this comment on our stolen from a sleepover episode, but they said I love this podcast even better now that you're just doing it.
12:24.083 --> 12:27.911
[SPEAKER_00]: You're very likable and seem like a really cool dude, your work is dope.
12:28.192 --> 12:28.673
[SPEAKER_00]: Keep it up.
12:29.214 --> 12:30.477
[SPEAKER_00]: So I just wanted to take a moment.
12:30.798 --> 12:35.528
[SPEAKER_00]: It just made my heart so happy to know that people are still listening and still liking it.
12:35.708 --> 12:39.597
[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, maybe I know it's different, but maybe it's likable in a different way.
12:39.637 --> 12:41.080
[SPEAKER_00]: So gaps to extra.
12:41.060 --> 12:45.427
[SPEAKER_00]: Just wanted to take a second to say thank you for taking the time to leave that Spotify comment.
12:45.467 --> 12:46.589
[SPEAKER_00]: It really does mean a lot.
12:47.009 --> 12:55.663
[SPEAKER_00]: And as always, if you want to leave some feedback on an episode or what you think of the show or did I miss something and anything like that, please, there's a couple different ways you can do that.
12:55.743 --> 12:57.186
[SPEAKER_00]: You can leave us a Spotify comment.
12:57.206 --> 12:58.127
[SPEAKER_00]: We always love those.
12:58.508 --> 13:01.973
[SPEAKER_00]: The Apple Podcast reviews are always wonderful as well.
13:02.374 --> 13:06.240
[SPEAKER_00]: You can even send an email to contacts at checkthaloxpod.com.
13:06.661 --> 13:08.063
[SPEAKER_00]: I would love to hear from you.
13:08.043 --> 13:14.335
[SPEAKER_00]: I try to be as active in that email as I possibly can make sure that we're corresponding in the best way that we can.
13:14.455 --> 13:21.930
[SPEAKER_00]: So again, just want to say thank you for the feedback and if you want to leave some I would love to hear from you.
13:22.591 --> 13:25.256
[SPEAKER_00]: And as always, if you like what we do, you want to help support the show.
13:25.336 --> 13:27.300
[SPEAKER_00]: You can do so by becoming a patron.
13:27.280 --> 13:28.522
[SPEAKER_00]: head over to patreon.com.
13:28.542 --> 13:29.484
