01:51.166 --> 01:53.350
[SPEAKER_00]: This is Check The Locks Podcast.

02:05.699 --> 02:10.284
[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, and thank you for joining me as we dive in to yet another truly terrifying true crime case.

02:10.645 --> 02:13.949
[SPEAKER_00]: Before we get started, I just wanted to take a moment and say, I hope y'all had a great week.

02:13.969 --> 02:15.210
[SPEAKER_00]: Hope it was a great weekend.

02:15.731 --> 02:29.207
[SPEAKER_00]: I put it out there on the Facebook group and just kind of asked what everybody was getting into this weekend and got a lot of really cool responses back from new hairstyles to ice fishing with the kids, working on the farm, even somebody who was having a book be dazzling party.

02:29.908 --> 02:32.211
[SPEAKER_00]: So, sounds like we had a lot of fun this weekend.

02:32.231 --> 02:34.153
[SPEAKER_00]: We were getting into some really cool stuff.

02:34.133 --> 02:37.038
[SPEAKER_00]: And I did just want to take a moment to say thank you.

02:37.599 --> 02:42.387
[SPEAKER_00]: I know that we are always doing a million different things, activities, kids, stuff like that.

02:42.888 --> 02:52.504
[SPEAKER_00]: And the fact that you let me in this podcast be part of your day, your week, you allow me to share that time with you, it really just means the world.

02:52.624 --> 02:55.149
[SPEAKER_00]: So no matter what you're getting into, I hope it's been great.

02:55.169 --> 03:00.057
[SPEAKER_00]: And I just wanted to say thank you so much for letting me tag along with you and letting me be a part of that.

03:01.117 --> 03:08.009
[SPEAKER_00]: Getting into this week's case, I have to tell you this is probably one of my favorite ones that I have researched in quite some time.

03:09.111 --> 03:23.496
[SPEAKER_00]: If you know me outside of the podcast, you know I'm passionate about a few different things true crime, definitely being one of those, but I also love pop culture, I love music, music history, not just about songs and artists, but

03:23.476 --> 03:27.880
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I grew up playing in bands and traveling in a band and things like that.

03:28.421 --> 03:31.664
[SPEAKER_00]: So I really get into the story behind these artists and these songs.

03:32.064 --> 03:36.168
[SPEAKER_00]: And I will have to tell you, this case kind of blends all of those together.

03:36.208 --> 03:41.333
[SPEAKER_00]: So why it is still a tragic tale and it still has those heartbreaking true crime elements.

03:41.813 --> 03:49.680
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot to this case where if you are a fan of pop culture, music history, things of that nature, I think you're really going to enjoy this episode.

03:49.821 --> 03:50.361
[SPEAKER_00]: So,

03:50.341 --> 03:56.647
[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, again, just want to say thank you for joining me hanging out with me and letting me be part of your week with that.

03:56.687 --> 03:58.409
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go ahead and quit the Gabby Gabby.

03:58.429 --> 04:00.111
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get into the stabby stabby.

04:00.171 --> 04:02.413
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's break down this week's case.

04:03.194 --> 04:15.066
[SPEAKER_00]: St. Louis Missouri has a rich musical history acting as a crucial hub for blues, jazz, and rock and roll music with artists like Chuck Berry, Miles Davis, and Tina Turner getting their starts.

04:15.046 --> 04:25.509
[SPEAKER_00]: The city would become part of America's music corridor, specifically Saint Louis to the South, a suggested starting point for musicians that would lead to Memphis in New Orleans.

04:26.211 --> 04:30.620
[SPEAKER_00]: And in 1966, a brand new band was making a splash on the scene.

04:31.322 --> 04:33.747
[SPEAKER_00]: Bob Cuban and the Inman.

04:33.946 --> 04:42.256
[SPEAKER_00]: The group was founded by Bob Cuban, a high school music instructor who had studied under the lead percussionist of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.

04:43.137 --> 04:49.844
[SPEAKER_00]: Cuban would begin to build the group in 1964 using talented former students to construct the band's lineup.

04:50.846 --> 04:57.253
[SPEAKER_00]: Members of the group were clean cut and well dressed, playing against the 60s rock star fashion of the time.

04:57.723 --> 05:04.083
[SPEAKER_00]: The band was growing a popularity mostly due to their charismatic blonde-haired front-man, Walter Scott.

05:05.227 --> 05:11.226
[SPEAKER_00]: Scott was born Walter Scott, Nothias, born on February 7, 1943.

05:11.358 --> 05:15.203
[SPEAKER_00]: He would go on to Marius' first wife Doris just out of his teen years.

05:16.064 --> 05:19.969
[SPEAKER_00]: Scott had been working as a crane operator when he was asked to front the in-men.

05:20.630 --> 05:24.235
[SPEAKER_00]: And by 1966, the band were certified stars.

05:24.916 --> 05:28.961
[SPEAKER_00]: With their hit song The Cheater hitting number 12 on the Billboard charts.

05:30.062 --> 05:36.150
[SPEAKER_00]: The song warned about a man called The Cheater, who would steal your girlfriend and proceed to Miss Treater.

05:36.721 --> 05:41.148
[SPEAKER_00]: Teenage Girls fond, not only over the song, but over the dreamy frontman.

05:41.910 --> 05:51.265
[SPEAKER_00]: And on April 30th, 1966, Bob Cuban and the Inmen would play Dick Clark's American bandstand, helping to boost the band's popularity.

05:52.167 --> 05:56.113
[SPEAKER_00]: But sadly, lightning wouldn't strike twice for the group.

05:56.212 --> 06:02.939
[SPEAKER_00]: While the inn men would go on to have other minor hits like drive my car, they would never capture the success of the cheater.

06:03.700 --> 06:09.105
[SPEAKER_00]: And Walter Scott would eventually leave the group, striking out on his own and hoping to build a solo career.

06:10.006 --> 06:21.898
[SPEAKER_00]: Throughout the 1970s and 80s, the singer would travel the country with his new group, Walter Scott and the cheaters, performing one night shows at hotels, fares, and other similar venues.

06:22.233 --> 06:27.779
[SPEAKER_00]: This meant that Scott spent a lot of time away, while Doris would be home with a couple's two sons.

06:28.580 --> 06:33.605
[SPEAKER_00]: And Walter Scott was a lot like the man in his old band's hit song, a cheater.

06:34.426 --> 06:38.410
[SPEAKER_00]: He was handsome and he loved the ladies, and the ladies loved him right back.

06:39.571 --> 06:43.855
[SPEAKER_00]: Walter would eventually meet a woman named Joanne Calcatarah.

06:43.875 --> 06:48.460
[SPEAKER_00]: Calcatarah works as a secretary and was an overly devoted fan of the singer.

06:49.165 --> 06:55.292
[SPEAKER_00]: The two would begin in a fair, with Scott eventually divorcing Doris to be with his new love interest.

06:55.312 --> 07:01.318
[SPEAKER_00]: But his family wasn't on board, with his parents believing that Calcutara was selfish and untrustworthy.

07:02.360 --> 07:06.584
[SPEAKER_00]: The couple would go on to have twins together, but old habits tended to die hard.

07:07.265 --> 07:10.709
[SPEAKER_00]: And before long, Walter Scott was engaged in another affair.

07:11.610 --> 07:14.633
[SPEAKER_00]: This time, with one of the dancers from his show.

07:14.798 --> 07:20.567
[SPEAKER_00]: not to be outdone, Joanne had also begun an affair with a married electrician named Jim Williams.

07:21.428 --> 07:24.393
[SPEAKER_00]: The two in Matt Wild Williams was doing work at the couple's home.

07:25.134 --> 07:30.542
[SPEAKER_00]: Joanne and Jim would become friendly and begin talking with the lonely wife confiding in the electrician.

07:31.443 --> 07:35.750
[SPEAKER_00]: And what began is venting about her husband being away with turn into an affair.

07:36.671 --> 07:41.278
[SPEAKER_00]: With Jim Williams also cheating on Sharon, his wife of 20 years.

07:41.883 --> 07:47.696
[SPEAKER_00]: But in October of 1983, a tragic event would change Jim Williams' marital status.

07:48.698 --> 07:55.673
[SPEAKER_00]: Sharon Williams was driving and lost control over Cadillac, causing the car to veer off the road and into an embankment.

07:56.328 --> 08:02.034
[SPEAKER_00]: When first responders arrived, a grass fire had started next to the vehicle and was burning at about a foot tall.

08:02.996 --> 08:10.064
[SPEAKER_00]: Sharon was removed from the car but had sustained a serious head injury, fracturing her skull and leaving the woman on life support.

08:10.784 --> 08:14.128
[SPEAKER_00]: With doctors telling Jim Williams that she was not likely to wake up.

08:15.149 --> 08:19.334
[SPEAKER_00]: When given the choice, the husband made a decision he would let his wife go.

08:20.315 --> 08:23.719
[SPEAKER_00]: But for Walter Scott, the year seemed to be turning around.

08:24.273 --> 08:30.700
[SPEAKER_00]: He had gotten worried that Bob Kibon was putting the inn men back together, and Scott had been asked to return as a group's front man.

08:31.421 --> 08:39.370
[SPEAKER_00]: He had also taken some time off from performing at the Playboy Club in Pennsylvania, going home to St. Louis so he could be with Joanne and the family for Christmas.

08:40.211 --> 08:41.933
[SPEAKER_00]: But the joy would be short-lived.

08:42.774 --> 08:50.483
[SPEAKER_00]: On December 27, 1983, just two days after Christmas, Joanne called the local police reporting Walter missing.

08:51.222 --> 08:59.429
[SPEAKER_00]: According to Joan, Walter Scott had left the house that day to buy a new car battery, wearing a blue jogging suit, but he never returned home.

09:00.671 --> 09:02.913
[SPEAKER_00]: Authorities immediately began looking for the singer.

09:03.513 --> 09:08.518
[SPEAKER_00]: They spoke with the owner of a local garage who shared that Scott had never come in for a battery as planned.

09:09.479 --> 09:13.863
[SPEAKER_00]: The next day, his car would be found abandoned in a parking lot at the St. Louis airport.

09:14.623 --> 09:19.828
[SPEAKER_00]: But when investigators looked into it, Scott had not been listed on any flight leaving

09:20.585 --> 09:24.191
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, in the beginning, the singer's parents weren't overly concerned.

09:25.212 --> 09:29.859
[SPEAKER_00]: Walter would often take quick trips in and out of town, but would always come back.

09:29.879 --> 09:34.607
[SPEAKER_00]: But their feelings would change when they visited Joanne shortly after their son's disappearance.

09:35.568 --> 09:45.343
[SPEAKER_00]: When they walked into the couple's home, they were shocked to see the six-foot six-inch gym Williams sitting at the kitchen table, rifling through their son's jewelry case.

09:46.117 --> 09:50.984
[SPEAKER_00]: They also noticed that two of Walter's firearms were out, but a third seemed to be missing.

09:52.046 --> 09:59.717
[SPEAKER_00]: When authorities heard this news, they began asking questions, and they learned that William's car had been parked outside the Scott home all night.

10:00.639 --> 10:06.087
[SPEAKER_00]: When asked, Joanna admitted that William's had spent the night, but insisted that he had slept on the couch.

10:07.189 --> 10:14.740
[SPEAKER_00]: Investigators found this incredibly strange, especially since Joanna's husband had only been

10:14.956 --> 10:18.561
[SPEAKER_00]: but it was what Joanne did next that flagged as even stranger.

10:19.523 --> 10:26.574
[SPEAKER_00]: The supposedly worried wife had called her husband's manager, canceling all of his performances for the next nine weeks.

10:27.615 --> 10:38.652
[SPEAKER_00]: Joanne also made wild claims to the police, telling investigators that Scott was involved in the drug trade intended to carry a large amount of cash while mingling with unsavory characters.

10:39.712 --> 10:46.879
[SPEAKER_00]: The search for Walter would continue throughout the spring and the summer, but no friends, family, or fellow musicians had heard from him.

10:47.600 --> 10:50.263
[SPEAKER_00]: It was if the singer had simply vanished into thin air.

10:51.624 --> 10:58.492
[SPEAKER_00]: Nine months later, Joanne would file for divorce from Walter Scott, only to marry Jim Williams shortly after.

10:58.512 --> 11:01.475
[SPEAKER_00]: And Walter's case had gone cold.

11:02.536 --> 11:09.583
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, three years later, in 1986, there were some changes happening at the St. Louis Medical

11:09.800 --> 11:14.766
[SPEAKER_00]: A forensic pathologist was brought on to re-examine any suspicious deaths that had occurred.

11:15.728 --> 11:21.675
[SPEAKER_00]: One of these cases was the automobile accident of Sharon Williams, Jim Williams deceased wife.

11:22.837 --> 11:29.605
[SPEAKER_00]: Investigators had found it odd that the damage to the vehicle had been so minimal, but Sharon's head injury had been so severe.

11:30.526 --> 11:37.275
[SPEAKER_00]: It was also strange that the car had suffered most of the damage to the front end, but the injury was to the back of Sharon's skull.

11:37.998 --> 11:45.225
[SPEAKER_00]: Because of this, they believed it was worth taking another look, and upon revisiting the case, some strange details sit out.

11:46.306 --> 11:50.590
[SPEAKER_00]: First, the driver's side door was wide open when first responders arrived.

11:51.430 --> 11:57.456
[SPEAKER_00]: It was also noted that the driver's seat was pushed all the way back, even though Sharon was not a tall woman.

11:58.597 --> 12:06.064
[SPEAKER_00]: Additionally, there had been no damage to the car's fuel line, leaving investigators

12:06.415 --> 12:15.025
[SPEAKER_00]: Lastly, interviews done in the emergency room on that night showed that the nurses reported the strong smell of gasoline coming from Sharon's body.

12:15.933 --> 12:20.417
[SPEAKER_00]: After reviewing the case and finding such major inconsistencies, a decision was made.

12:21.238 --> 12:24.301
[SPEAKER_00]: Investigators would assume the body of Sharon Williams.

12:25.122 --> 12:31.287
[SPEAKER_00]: You see, an autopsy had never been done when Sharon passed away, and detectives believed they may now be dealing with a murder.

12:32.048 --> 12:44.860
[SPEAKER_00]: Upon examination, there were two blunt impacts to the back of Sharon's head, causing vertical laceration and massive skull fractures.

12:45.262 --> 12:54.528
[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, the forensic pathologists believe that the injuries were caused by either a pipe or a crowbar, causing Sharon's death to be officially ruled as a homicide.

12:55.331 --> 12:58.680
[SPEAKER_00]: And the police considered Jim Williams their prime suspect.

12:59.572 --> 13:06.362
[SPEAKER_00]: They also believed that he and Joanne were involved in the disappearance of Walter Scott, but they would need some solid evidence.

13:07.284 --> 13:16.618
[SPEAKER_00]: It was around this time that investigators learned that William's son, Jim Jr., had been arrested and was serving time for an unrelated crime in Florida.

13:16.902 --> 13:24.795
[SPEAKER_00]: Jim Jr. was a strain from his father and detectives believe that it might be worth having a conversation with the man, so they headed to Florida for an interview.

13:25.336 --> 13:28.401
[SPEAKER_00]: During which, Jim Jr. shared an interesting detail.

13:29.202 --> 13:32.327
[SPEAKER_00]: According to Williams, his family home had a sister in the yard.

13:32.968 --> 13:41.222
[SPEAKER_00]: Now for those who may be unfamiliar like I was, a sister in his large waterproof box used to collect water and it's usually placed underground.

13:41.523 --> 13:54.341
[SPEAKER_00]: Junior told investigators that the system had been uncovered his entire life, but around the time that Walter Scott went missing, his dad Jim Williams suddenly decided to cover it with concrete and build a planner box over it.

13:55.362 --> 14:06.838
[SPEAKER_00]: Detectives now believe that this is where Scott's remains could be hidden, so a search warrant was issued for the residents, and when investigators removed the cement cover, they made a startling discovery.

14:07.122 --> 14:12.109
[SPEAKER_00]: There, floating on top of the water was a decomposed body dressed in a bleak track suit.

14:13.010 --> 14:16.515
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly like the one Walter Scott was wearing when he was last seen.

14:17.616 --> 14:21.221
[SPEAKER_00]: The remains would be removed, and the water from the system would be drained.

14:22.122 --> 14:29.913
[SPEAKER_00]: At the bottom, detectives found a sealed plastic bag, and inside was Scott's credit cards and drivers license.

14:29.933 --> 14:34.699
[SPEAKER_00]: An autopsy would reveal that Walter Scott had been shot in the back before his body was dumped.

14:35.557 --> 14:40.524
[SPEAKER_00]: Jim Williams was arrested in charge with the murders of Walter Scott and Sharon Williams.

14:41.245 --> 14:48.255
[SPEAKER_00]: Joe Anne was also arrested in charge and both would be scheduled to be tried separately with Jim Williams' trial beginning first.

14:49.256 --> 14:55.224
[SPEAKER_00]: During which prosecutors argued that Jim and Sharon had gotten into an argument over his affair with Joe Anne.

14:56.246 --> 15:04.197
[SPEAKER_00]: They believe that at some point the argument turned violent, and Jim Williams hit Sharon

15:04.345 --> 15:15.197
[SPEAKER_00]: They argued that to cover up what he had done, he placed Sharon's body in her car and then staged the automobile accident, before setting fire to the nearby grass and fleeing the scene.

15:16.338 --> 15:21.504
[SPEAKER_00]: Then, with Sharon out of the picture, the only problem left to deal with was Walter Scott.

15:22.285 --> 15:26.910
[SPEAKER_00]: With both of them gone, Williams and Joanne could finally be together.

15:27.211 --> 15:35.739
[SPEAKER_00]: The prosecution told the jury that they believed Walter Scott was shot in the back while at home before his body was dumped into the sister and on Williams' property.

15:36.460 --> 15:38.182
[SPEAKER_00]: However, there was just one issue.

15:38.722 --> 15:41.565
[SPEAKER_00]: There were no eyewitnesses in the murder weapon was never found.

15:42.326 --> 15:52.476
[SPEAKER_00]: But neighbors did testify that they saw Williams filling the sister and building the flower box in 20-degree weather, only shortly after Walter's disappearance.

15:53.536 --> 15:56.381
[SPEAKER_00]: Williams was convicted of two counts of capital murder.

15:57.022 --> 15:59.466
[SPEAKER_00]: He would be sentenced to life in prison without parole.

16:00.168 --> 16:09.704
[SPEAKER_00]: And later in an interview, Jim Williams would continue to claim his innocence, saying that a son, Jim Jr., may have been responsible for Walter Scott's death.

16:10.726 --> 16:13.671
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Joanne actually got off much easier.

16:14.208 --> 16:19.894
[SPEAKER_00]: In her case, prosecutors only had circumstantial evidence, so it never actually made it to court.

16:20.635 --> 16:24.620
[SPEAKER_00]: Instead, she pleaded guilty to hindering a police investigation.

16:25.501 --> 16:41.278
[SPEAKER_00]: Joanne would be sentenced to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine, but she would be released after serving only 18 months, leaving Walter Scott's family to believe that justice was only partially served, allowing one of his killers to walk away.

16:56.294 --> 17:03.383
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's this week's case, and as always, I wanted to close it out with some vinyl thoughts first, as I was going through and doing the research.

17:04.665 --> 17:08.570
[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't realize it, but I actually knew who Bob Cuban in the Inman work.

17:09.051 --> 17:24.732
[SPEAKER_00]: So again, I mentioned the story they had a kind of a secondary hit that didn't chart in the same way as the cheater, but it was called Drive My Car, and I have a very vivid memory of being a child sitting on the carpet, watching TV, probably eating cereal on a Saturday morning,

17:24.712 --> 17:27.316
[SPEAKER_00]: And that baby you can drive my car.

17:27.817 --> 17:30.040
[SPEAKER_00]: You know I'm going to be a star.

17:30.581 --> 17:32.504
[SPEAKER_00]: Baby you can drive my car.

17:33.025 --> 17:34.567
[SPEAKER_00]: And baby, I love you.

17:34.607 --> 17:36.610
[SPEAKER_00]: Beep beep beep beep yeah.

17:36.791 --> 17:41.818
[SPEAKER_00]: And I, I'm sorry for the half singing, but it's just very, did, I was like, I know that song.

17:41.899 --> 17:45.324
[SPEAKER_00]: And I completely forgot that I knew anything about that song.

17:45.344 --> 17:52.575
[SPEAKER_00]: And I, if my memory serves, I think it's from like a mother's against drunk driving commercial or like an anti-drinking and driving commercial.

17:52.555 --> 17:55.798
[SPEAKER_00]: But I just have this very vivid memory of that song.

17:56.458 --> 17:59.381
[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought that was, you know, for me personally, I thought that was very interesting.

17:59.861 --> 18:15.194
[SPEAKER_00]: And then just kind of thinking about how music worked in the 60s, where it's just a music teacher, who's like, yeah, you know, this guy graduated last year, the guy that year before, I'm going to put together a band and then you're just playing around St. Louis and then suddenly you're on American bands band.

18:15.374 --> 18:22.360
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's just, I think it speaks to you just the way that

18:22.340 --> 18:28.147
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, how you could go from being just a group of kids and saying, Louis, all of a sudden you're the next big thing on TV.

18:28.267 --> 18:49.731
[SPEAKER_00]: You've got a song in the Billboard charts every teenage girl in the Midwest is, you know, wanting to, you know, hold hands with you at the soccer, and go to the soda fountain, you know, it's just a different time, you know, and then to think how Walter Scott becomes famous off this song called the cheater and just goes on to just have a problem with the adultery.

18:49.880 --> 19:02.421
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's a little ironic, you know, I mean, just to think that that's how everything played out, definitely tragic, you know, the I can't imagine I'm I'm married.

19:03.430 --> 19:06.514
[SPEAKER_00]: I have a child, I'm very happy and secure in my life.

19:06.935 --> 19:11.461
[SPEAKER_00]: But then you start thinking about someone who lives this kind of rock star life.

19:11.481 --> 19:13.164
[SPEAKER_00]: You're in a different city every night.

19:13.925 --> 19:15.187
[SPEAKER_00]: People are coming to see you.

19:15.768 --> 19:23.499
[SPEAKER_00]: You have bands, you have people who do anything just to be able to talk to you or walk away with a set list or something like that.

19:23.939 --> 19:25.962
[SPEAKER_00]: So to think about,

19:26.701 --> 19:29.846
[SPEAKER_00]: what must have been presented to somebody like Walter Scott.

19:30.366 --> 19:34.793
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm not saying, you know, he's definitely not, you know, erosmith or anything like that.

19:34.933 --> 19:47.511
[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, musicians, especially musicians who have kind of cultivated a fan base and have been around for a while and you've had hits, like there's always going to be an audience and people who are into that, right?

19:47.591 --> 19:49.013
[SPEAKER_00]: So, um,

19:48.993 --> 19:57.165
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I definitely think it was probably very easy for him to step outside of his marriage and, you know, any serious relationships, anything like that.

19:57.185 --> 20:00.730
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that this case kind of illustrates that he did that repeatedly.

20:01.290 --> 20:06.097
[SPEAKER_00]: Now with that being said, you know, definitely don't think that he deserved to lose his life.

20:06.618 --> 20:11.625
[SPEAKER_00]: And the thing that kind of drove me crazy with this is that.

20:11.875 --> 20:23.291
[SPEAKER_00]: it through the research, it implies what Joanne was trying to gain out of this, you know, obviously, you know, even if you charted in the 60s, it's now 20 years later, right?

20:23.351 --> 20:33.705
[SPEAKER_00]: If you're a living musician and you're playing resonancies and you're doing one night here, one night there, you can make a pretty good living.

20:33.725 --> 20:41.055
[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, again, you have royalties from the other songs and things like that.

20:41.035 --> 20:45.102
[SPEAKER_00]: For Joe and if this was if he's gone, I can be with this guy.

20:45.122 --> 20:53.737
[SPEAKER_00]: I want to be and then I get his estate, you know, anything that he's accumulated, you know, they they talk about the jewelry, they talk about the large amount of cash.

20:53.757 --> 21:00.489
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if this was just her way of, you know, hey, I'm I'm a scorned wife and and you've been stepping out of me.

21:00.509 --> 21:03.555
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to step out on you and I'm going to take everything from you.

21:04.737 --> 21:05.558
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a.

21:06.803 --> 21:19.199
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just wish we would have more information because after she had served her 18 months, I'm sorry, after she served her 18 months in prison, Joanne just kind of seemed to drop off the radar.

21:19.359 --> 21:21.963
[SPEAKER_00]: There is an any information about anything that's happened.

21:21.983 --> 21:27.149
[SPEAKER_00]: I did find a no bituary from 2015, but it is somebody completely different.

21:27.690 --> 21:31.815
[SPEAKER_00]: So nobody really knows what happened to Joanne after she got a prison.

21:31.935 --> 21:35.460
[SPEAKER_00]: Did she, you know, remarried, did, you know,

21:35.440 --> 21:36.442
[SPEAKER_00]: leave the country.

21:36.482 --> 21:37.604
[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody really knows.

21:37.705 --> 21:39.708
[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, there's a lot of questions there.

21:39.729 --> 21:54.057
[SPEAKER_00]: And then, I think the hardest part for me about this entire case is thinking about Sharon Williams, you know, because to me, outside of Walter Scott, who, you know, lost his life also,

21:54.593 --> 21:59.583
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is just a woman who is married to a man who found out that her husband was cheating, right?

21:59.743 --> 22:07.319
[SPEAKER_00]: And in this argument, not only does he beat her to death, but then stages this elaborate murder scene.

22:07.599 --> 22:11.768
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and thankfully, the medical examiner was like, something doesn't sound right here.

22:11.808 --> 22:12.970
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to dive a little bit deeper.

22:13.011 --> 22:15.235
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to figure out what's going on.

22:15.215 --> 22:18.720
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, there was a lot of really interesting things about this case.

22:18.800 --> 22:33.280
[SPEAKER_00]: I will tell you just as kind of a closing, Jim Williams actually went on to serve his time at Missouri's Potosi Prison, which is their maximum security prison, before dying of cancer at the age of 72 in 2011.

22:34.321 --> 22:36.264
[SPEAKER_00]: So he is no longer with us.

22:37.105 --> 22:42.252
[SPEAKER_00]: One thing about Jim Williams that I

22:42.232 --> 22:45.416
[SPEAKER_00]: that he would give that interview and be like, well, it's probably my son.

22:45.556 --> 22:55.008
[SPEAKER_00]: My son probably did it, especially when you look at the fact that Jim was having an affair with Walter Scott's wife, they got married again, he had something to gain.

22:55.068 --> 23:02.318
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's kind of a wild, I know they were strange, but it's kind of wild to throw your son under the bus and be like, no, I didn't do it, he did it.

23:02.378 --> 23:11.209
[SPEAKER_00]: And I know for me personally, you know, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, right?

23:11.189 --> 23:16.774
[SPEAKER_00]: that Jim Williams was the person who killed Walter Scott and then dispose of his body.

23:17.895 --> 23:22.760
[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, just again, just absolutely wild that he would be like, yes.

23:22.920 --> 23:24.241
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, my son probably did it.

23:24.341 --> 23:34.511
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, it was crazy that he knew about the sister and, you know, it's not to mention he grew up around his whole life and then, you know, I was out there covering in cement and putting a planner box, but it was probably him.

23:34.711 --> 23:36.153
[SPEAKER_00]: So, I don't know.

23:36.193 --> 23:38.715
[SPEAKER_00]: There was a lot about this case that

23:38.695 --> 23:51.271
[SPEAKER_00]: kind of had, I don't want to use like soap opera because these are real people and real events that happen, but it's that, it's that adultery, it's that betrayal, you know, the music aspect.

23:51.331 --> 23:57.979
[SPEAKER_00]: It's, I think, you know, this would be one of those stories that would make a heck of a motion picture of anybody ever inside it and make it.

23:58.139 --> 23:58.560
[SPEAKER_00]: So.

23:59.452 --> 24:01.335
[SPEAKER_00]: That was this week's case for me.

24:01.576 --> 24:04.120
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm going to put this at a 10 on the interesting scale.

24:04.220 --> 24:06.985
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, for a devil test, I'm not stepping out on my wife.

24:07.045 --> 24:08.467
[SPEAKER_00]: My wife is not stepping out on me.

24:08.527 --> 24:11.012
[SPEAKER_00]: We are very happy, secure in our marriage.

24:11.052 --> 24:14.177
[SPEAKER_00]: I think, you know, as far as it's being something I'm personally afraid of happening.

24:14.738 --> 24:18.124
[SPEAKER_00]: I'd probably put this at like a two or three, just because, you know, you never know.

24:18.705 --> 24:21.730
[SPEAKER_00]: But for the interesting scale, I'm definitely going to put this at a 10.

24:21.710 --> 24:28.601
[SPEAKER_00]: But as always, I want to hear from you, the listeners, the locksmiths, where does the murder of Walter Scott fall on your devil test?
