[SPEAKER_00]: Listener discretion is strongly advised.

00:27.841 --> 00:37.164
[SPEAKER_01]: The city of grapevine is known as the Christmas capital of Texas, but on Christmas Day 2011, it became known for something far more sinister.

00:38.006 --> 00:41.855
[SPEAKER_01]: Join me, John Connor, as we discuss the grapevine Christmas killings.

00:43.158 --> 00:45.023
[SPEAKER_01]: This is Check The Locks Podcast.

00:56.917 --> 01:17.878
[SPEAKER_01]: welcome back to check the locks podcast and thank you for joining me as we dive into yet another truly terrifying true crime case before we get started hope y'all are doing well hope it's been a good week for you happy to be back and talk in true crime we are going to keep the theme rolling with some Christmas time true crime got a case that i wanted to cover with you today that i will be very honest with you i

01:17.858 --> 01:19.281
[SPEAKER_01]: I was not familiar with.

01:19.341 --> 01:22.828
[SPEAKER_01]: I know I say that a lot, but it's just one that was never on my radar.

01:22.888 --> 01:27.017
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm super excited to break it down and also to hear from you, the listeners, the locksmiths.

01:27.337 --> 01:29.241
[SPEAKER_01]: Is this a case that you were familiar with?

01:29.802 --> 01:33.830
[SPEAKER_01]: Is this one that you knew about maybe you're in that particular area?

01:33.871 --> 01:36.576
[SPEAKER_01]: And you remember when I happened would love to hear from you?

01:36.556 --> 01:52.991
[SPEAKER_01]: And speaking of hearing from our community, I did want to touch on a comment that was left on our Patreon, from one of our wonderful Patreon community members, her name is Carissa, about last week's episode, the murder of Zazel Preson.

01:53.031 --> 02:00.138
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you haven't listened to that episode, go ahead and pause this one, go back, listen the last week, and then come back and join us for this conversation.

02:00.718 --> 02:03.981
[SPEAKER_01]: But I wanted to read Carissa's comment because I think,

02:03.961 --> 02:29.783
[SPEAKER_01]: uh... she makes a really good point and it did poise a few questions in my head here so uh... just wanted to run it by uh... but churris a set on patreon there's a serial killer element here for someone to redress and pose a body has he killed before he could have killed again so callously it's blatantly disrespectful to your child to harm their other parent in any way verbally or physically

02:29.763 --> 02:54.606
[SPEAKER_01]: And I have to tell you, I, you know, didn't really think about it as I was going through, but, you know, again, just total speculation here, but to murder your wife, to change her clothes, get rid of evidence, to pose her body, you know, that, that is, hey, I've done this before energy, and it's, you know, again, very unsettling regardless of whether or not he is killed anyone in the past,

02:54.586 --> 03:02.076
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, it definitely is very apparent that he was capable of some insane levels of violence.

03:02.176 --> 03:08.825
[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, just want to say, Chris, I thank you for sharing that comment, uh, definitely gave me something to think about and something to chew on there.

03:09.285 --> 03:12.390
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, if you're listening to this podcast, we definitely want to hear from you.

03:12.790 --> 03:21.842
[SPEAKER_01]: You can leave us a Spotify comment, leave us a review on Apple Podcasts or if you want to become a member of our Patreon family or you're in the Facebook group, you can leave some feedback there.

03:21.822 --> 03:24.465
[SPEAKER_01]: absolutely love to talk about it and in here what you think.

03:24.545 --> 03:29.491
[SPEAKER_01]: So with that being said, I say we go ahead and jump into this week's case.

03:29.511 --> 03:33.135
[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, I'm super excited to break it down, super excited to hear what you think.

03:33.475 --> 03:35.698
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's go ahead and hop on into it.

03:36.539 --> 03:45.469
[SPEAKER_01]: Great vine Texas is a suburban neighborhood near Dallas home to nearly 51,000 people, the city is mostly known for one thing.

03:46.109 --> 03:48.572
[SPEAKER_01]: It's Christmas extravaganza.

03:48.738 --> 04:02.079
[SPEAKER_01]: Every year, grapevine transforms into a winter wonderland, full of activities like the parade of lights and drone show, where children can see Santa at the city's North Pole Express and holiday cheer fills the air.

04:02.860 --> 04:08.128
[SPEAKER_01]: But in 2011, one family had their celebration cut tragically short.

04:08.889 --> 04:17.142
[SPEAKER_01]: When a 911 dispatcher received a startling call shortly after 11.30 a.m.

04:18.387 --> 04:19.288
[SPEAKER_02]: Hello, great fun.

04:19.308 --> 04:19.869
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm in one.

04:20.709 --> 04:23.913
[SPEAKER_02]: Do you need help?

04:25.495 --> 04:27.677
[SPEAKER_02]: Are you sick?

04:30.240 --> 04:30.800
[SPEAKER_02]: What was that?

04:33.103 --> 04:34.684
[SPEAKER_02]: Do you need an ambulance or police?

04:37.948 --> 04:38.388
[SPEAKER_02]: Hello?

04:41.952 --> 04:42.413
[SPEAKER_02]: One moment.

04:43.594 --> 04:47.398
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just getting up and breathing on the phone.

04:47.665 --> 04:54.037
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, it may have been hard to hear, but if you listen closely, you can hear the caller whisper, I'm shooting people.

04:55.260 --> 05:01.592
[SPEAKER_01]: Officers were dispatched and arrived at the nearby Lincoln Vineyard Department only three minutes after receiving the call.

05:02.814 --> 05:08.425
[SPEAKER_01]: Once I'm the scene, they kicked in the door to reunit of the complex to make a heartbreaking discovery.

05:09.012 --> 05:23.233
[SPEAKER_01]: There lying on the ground amongst open presence and scattered wrapping paper were the bodies of seven deceased individuals, all of which had been killed by fatal gunshot wounds, with one seemingly self-inflicted.

05:24.395 --> 05:34.851
[SPEAKER_01]: Police were able to locate both a nine millimeter and 40 caliber handgun at the scene, and the authorities would later learn the identities of the seven found in the home.

05:35.017 --> 05:41.971
[SPEAKER_01]: 55-year-old Fatima Ramadi, her 14-year-old son Ali, and her 19-year-old daughter Nona.

05:42.712 --> 05:51.169
[SPEAKER_01]: Additionally, Fatima's sister 58-year-old Zora Ramadi and her husband, 59-year-old Mohamed Hassad Zaray.

05:51.318 --> 05:55.404
[SPEAKER_01]: Sadly, their 22-year-old daughter Sarah was also a victim.

05:56.146 --> 06:04.919
[SPEAKER_01]: The final body would be found to be that a 56-year-old Aziz Yasdampana, Fatima's husband and Aliyan known as father.

06:05.981 --> 06:09.867
[SPEAKER_01]: Yasdampana had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

06:09.847 --> 06:16.713
[SPEAKER_01]: and the police would learn that the 9-millimeter pistol found at the scene was purchased in 1996 and registered to him.

06:16.773 --> 06:21.937
[SPEAKER_01]: It would later be determined that Yazdampana was the 9-1-1 caller.

06:22.838 --> 06:25.400
[SPEAKER_01]: It was now cleared to the authorities what had happened.

06:26.201 --> 06:31.746
[SPEAKER_01]: Aziz Yazdampana had murdered his family on Christmas morning before taking his own life.

06:32.726 --> 06:39.212
[SPEAKER_01]: But to understand what led to such

06:40.542 --> 06:46.850
[SPEAKER_01]: Aziz Yadampana and Fatima Ramadi were both born in Iran and had migrated to the United States.

06:47.671 --> 06:50.595
[SPEAKER_01]: The couple shared two children, Aliya Nona.

06:51.356 --> 06:56.403
[SPEAKER_01]: The family lived in the 3,010 square foot home in a nearby town of Kohliville.

06:57.304 --> 07:06.837
[SPEAKER_01]: Yadampana worked in real estate and as per tradition Fatima stayed home and raised the children, even though she held the state cosmetology license.

07:07.289 --> 07:09.812
[SPEAKER_01]: But trouble would begin for the family in 1996.

07:11.494 --> 07:18.543
[SPEAKER_01]: According to federal court documents, Yazdampana was charged with one count of subscribing to a false income tax return.

07:19.424 --> 07:27.914
[SPEAKER_01]: He would be fine $1,000 in order to pay $30,119 in-restitution to the U.S. Department of Justice.

07:29.116 --> 07:35.203
[SPEAKER_01]: Yazdampana would also be placed on three years probation, but this was just the beginning.

07:36.095 --> 07:39.399
[SPEAKER_01]: Three years later, the couple would file jointly for bankruptcy.

07:40.320 --> 07:45.487
[SPEAKER_01]: Then, in 2008, Yazdamponov would lose his job in the mortgage business.

07:46.208 --> 07:56.460
[SPEAKER_01]: And suddenly, the man who had forbidden his wife to work was now relying on her to support the family, remaining unemployed wife Fatima worked at two different spas.

07:57.742 --> 08:04.110
[SPEAKER_01]: According to friends, Fatima felt that she was working hard to keep her family together

08:04.985 --> 08:15.396
[SPEAKER_01]: Additionally, in 2012, the Dallas News reported that Yazompano would travel with his brother-in-law and later victim, Mohammed Hassed Zerai.

08:16.276 --> 08:21.542
[SPEAKER_01]: Zerai owned a popular Dallas ranch, and the two would travel for so-called business trips.

08:22.283 --> 08:33.574
[SPEAKER_01]: But Yazompano would later tell a friend that he and his brother-in-law would use these trips to get hotel rooms and have sex with prostitutes,

08:34.837 --> 08:43.972
[SPEAKER_01]: According to the report, it's believed that Zerai would eventually tell his wife Fatima Sister, but only about what Yaz Dampano was doing.

08:45.014 --> 08:57.334
[SPEAKER_01]: This caused her to encourage her sister's separation from her husband, and in August of 2010, Fatima would file for bankruptcy on her own, hoping to stay off for closure on the family home.

08:57.905 --> 09:00.668
[SPEAKER_01]: But things would continue to get worse between the couple.

09:01.329 --> 09:10.598
[SPEAKER_01]: And in April of 2011, Fatima Ali and Nona would move out, relocating to the Lincoln Vineyard's apartment only two miles away.

09:10.658 --> 09:17.466
[SPEAKER_01]: Telling friends that her husband was not providing for his family as his Muslim responsibility dictated.

09:18.527 --> 09:25.414
[SPEAKER_01]: Yazdom Hanna would stay in the family's home, often living without electricity as he was still struggling financially.

09:25.985 --> 09:32.411
[SPEAKER_01]: The year would go on in the couple's daughter, Nona, would graduate from high school and had planned to go to college in California.

09:32.933 --> 09:34.459
[SPEAKER_01]: Hoping to become a lawyer.

09:34.996 --> 09:45.150
[SPEAKER_01]: It appeared that Fatima, Ali, and Nona were doing well on their own, and this only seemed to anger the estranged father, and anger that would grow as time went on.

09:46.011 --> 09:56.245
[SPEAKER_01]: As the holidays approached, Yazdampana had planned on attending a Christmas party thrown by a sister and brother-in-law, Zora Romadi and Mohammed Hassed Zerai.

09:56.377 --> 10:03.184
[SPEAKER_01]: But because of their history, and his sister-in-law's dislike for him, Yasdampana was told that he wasn't invited.

10:04.045 --> 10:07.349
[SPEAKER_01]: Seemingly pushing him over the edge and causing the man to snap.

10:08.270 --> 10:13.296
[SPEAKER_01]: He felt that his pride had been taken from him, and because of this, everyone would pay.

10:14.177 --> 10:23.667
[SPEAKER_01]: So on Christmas morning, Aziz Yaspandana put on a Santa Claus outfit and left his home.

10:24.035 --> 10:26.964
[SPEAKER_01]: When he arrived, he parked his SUV and approached the door.

10:27.806 --> 10:33.623
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, it's believed that he was let inside because when police arrived, there was no signs of force entry.

10:34.514 --> 10:44.466
[SPEAKER_01]: Shortly before 11 a.m., Zora-Ramadi and Mohammed-Zoriz-Dodder-Sara sent a text message to her boyfriend describing the situation in the family's home.

10:45.728 --> 10:49.493
[SPEAKER_01]: Just before 11 a.m., she wrote, so we're here.

10:49.533 --> 10:52.596
[SPEAKER_01]: We just got here and my uncle is here too.

10:52.837 --> 10:53.778
[SPEAKER_01]: Dress to Santa.

10:54.379 --> 10:54.719
[SPEAKER_01]: Awesome.

10:55.780 --> 11:01.247
[SPEAKER_01]: Then, at 11.15, now he wants to be all fatherly and win father of the year.

11:02.206 --> 11:08.374
[SPEAKER_01]: sending these messages not knowing that within 20 minutes everyone in the home would be executed.

11:09.595 --> 11:11.838
[SPEAKER_01]: Fatima Ramadi was shot once in the head.

11:12.519 --> 11:15.883
[SPEAKER_01]: Mahamed Zarai was shot in the head, chest, and stomach.

11:16.644 --> 11:24.113
[SPEAKER_01]: While his children, Ali and Nona, as well as their aunt, Zora Ramadi were shot multiple times in the

11:24.734 --> 11:34.048
[SPEAKER_01]: But then, Yazdampana tried to stage the scene, placing one of the guns in the hand of his brother-in-law before using the other to end his own life.

11:35.029 --> 11:44.523
[SPEAKER_01]: Bringing the violent nightmare to an end, along with any chance of getting a clear answer as to why Aziz Yazdampana felt his family had to die.

11:45.745 --> 11:53.256
[SPEAKER_01]: And though nearly 14 years of past, the city of Great Vine will always remember the tragedy

12:07.715 --> 12:20.527
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's this week's case and like usual I wanted to jump into some final thoughts and kind of break down how I was feeling after I went through the research and recorded the episode and I have to tell you, these ones are always just specifically hard for me.

12:20.687 --> 12:22.229
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm a father, right?

12:22.269 --> 12:37.283
[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that my child, when she thinks about me, she thinks is somebody who's there to protect her, someone to be silly with her, someone who she feels safe with and she knows, you know, isn't going to hurt her.

12:37.263 --> 12:40.736
[SPEAKER_01]: It's supposed to change as you get older.

12:41.237 --> 12:49.467
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I know as an adult, I've grown up and realized that, you know, my parents are people too, and people make mistakes in relationships.

12:50.003 --> 12:51.486
[SPEAKER_01]: and all sorts of things happen.

12:51.526 --> 12:56.976
[SPEAKER_01]: But at the end of the day, no matter what my relationship with my parents looked like, I know that they loved me.

12:57.016 --> 12:59.120
[SPEAKER_01]: They would never hurt me on purpose.

12:59.921 --> 13:01.524
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they want what's best for me.

13:02.286 --> 13:07.455
[SPEAKER_01]: And so to think about Ali and Nona and to think about

13:08.161 --> 13:22.103
[SPEAKER_01]: what they must have been feeling in that moment and having that realization that their life was ending and it was ending at the hands of the person who was supposed to protect them over all else is absolutely terrifying.

13:22.403 --> 13:28.314
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think there's a lot of people that have been in relationships that go through things that are really similar to this.

13:28.454 --> 13:32.802
[SPEAKER_01]: I know I have people in my life who have filed for bankruptcy because of things.

13:32.962 --> 13:37.771
[SPEAKER_01]: I know people in my life who, you know, have dealt with infidelity.

13:37.811 --> 13:38.793
[SPEAKER_01]: I think we all do.

13:38.933 --> 13:45.525
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think in some way we could all point to someone and say, Oh, that marriage or that family.

13:45.505 --> 13:50.089
[SPEAKER_01]: has gone through some some really tough things, you know, and it doesn't always work out.

13:50.289 --> 13:53.672
[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes you have to to step away.

13:53.772 --> 13:55.674
[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, again, that's a get too personal.

13:55.714 --> 13:58.156
[SPEAKER_01]: But my parents divorced when I was a teenager.

13:59.337 --> 14:02.499
[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, not much older than Oli, I was 15.

14:03.460 --> 14:10.606
[SPEAKER_01]: But I know that, you know, my parents never wanted more than what was best for the other.

14:11.026 --> 14:15.310
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, my mom, I know never looked at my

14:15.475 --> 14:19.100
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, oh, man, I want you to do terrible without me and vice versa.

14:19.320 --> 14:23.726
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this is the mother of your child, the father of your your child.

14:23.786 --> 14:24.987
[SPEAKER_01]: You want them to do well.

14:25.088 --> 14:30.755
[SPEAKER_01]: You want them to to succeed so that they can take care of your children, right?

14:30.775 --> 14:35.401
[SPEAKER_01]: And I am not, you know, I definitely understand that is not the case with everyone.

14:35.441 --> 14:36.943
[SPEAKER_01]: I know people who

14:36.923 --> 14:49.038
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, hate their exes and and are like, you know, I don't wish anything good on them anything like that, but out of those people that I know, I don't think any of them would wish murder or death or anything like that.

14:49.218 --> 14:52.281
[SPEAKER_01]: So again, just thinking about what these kids went through.

14:52.522 --> 14:53.263
[SPEAKER_01]: It's Christmas.

14:53.323 --> 14:54.304
[SPEAKER_01]: You've opened your gifts.

14:54.364 --> 14:57.708
[SPEAKER_01]: You're there with your family and your dad shows up dressed as Santa Claus.

14:58.990 --> 14:59.370
[SPEAKER_01]: And

15:00.582 --> 15:08.297
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's just hard and I wish I knew more about what happened in that interaction.

15:08.530 --> 15:13.556
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, you know, I wish that there was some way that we had more answers, right?

15:13.676 --> 15:15.378
[SPEAKER_01]: Because we don't know.

15:15.458 --> 15:20.303
[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know how long, uh, y'all's Dampana had been planning this.

15:20.403 --> 15:31.095
[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know, you know, if this is something that he just decided, snap decision, uh, it's, there's so much unknown to it because everyone involved is, is no longer with us.

15:31.244 --> 15:48.909
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and honestly, I, you know, I wish that Yazan Pana was still here so that he could face justice for what he did, you know, and, and have to stand trial for the just huge level of violence that, that he perpetrated that day.

15:49.590 --> 15:59.344
[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, again, as somebody with a wife and with the child of my own, I could just never, ever, ever see any reason that I would

15:59.459 --> 16:01.328
[SPEAKER_01]: resort to such violence.

16:01.348 --> 16:06.432
[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I don't normally do this, but I was talking to my wife before

16:07.373 --> 16:13.562
[SPEAKER_01]: I did this episode and kind of like briefing her on what the case was about because you know, she's just not a true crime person.

16:13.622 --> 16:23.836
[SPEAKER_01]: This isn't her thing, you know, but for some reason I had decided it's talked to her about this one and we were out to lunch and, you know, she is a therapist.

16:23.856 --> 16:29.905
[SPEAKER_01]: So she was kind of looking at it through that lens and she was talking about Yazdampanan saying, you know, here's a guy who

16:30.053 --> 16:35.683
[SPEAKER_01]: has lost his job, he's filing for bankruptcy.

16:35.764 --> 16:41.675
[SPEAKER_01]: So he's just trying to save what he has get out of this situation.

16:41.715 --> 16:44.239
[SPEAKER_01]: He's his rock bottom and then his wife leaves.

16:45.001 --> 16:49.209
[SPEAKER_01]: And then when he commits this attack, he's dressed as Santa Claus, right?

16:49.229 --> 16:52.635
[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost like a mask as a way to, you know,

16:52.615 --> 17:03.327
[SPEAKER_01]: I met my rock bottom and then I wear this almost as like an emotional disguise, where, you know, this isn't actually me doing this, this separates who I am from what I'm about to do.

17:03.928 --> 17:06.751
[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought that was a very interesting perspective on it.

17:07.852 --> 17:18.825
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, because again, I think if you are capable of doing something like this or something of that nature like you are probably in a situation where you have to split and kind of step outside yourself.

17:18.907 --> 17:30.199
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, this one to think that, you know, an entire family and not just, you know, immediate family, but you've got hand-tankled sisters, brother-in-law, you know, you're just trying to celebrate the holiday and

17:30.820 --> 17:41.100
[SPEAKER_01]: There's just someone there that doesn't have a grip on reality or, or, you know, just decides that, you know, I am hurting at this incredible level and now I'm going to inflict that onto you.

17:41.140 --> 17:45.488
[SPEAKER_01]: There's just something haunting and heartbreaking about it.

17:45.608 --> 17:50.237
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think for me, you know, this kind of case is always going to be high up there for me.

17:50.257 --> 17:53.183
[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is going to be a 10 just because.

17:53.720 --> 18:16.150
[SPEAKER_01]: you know again this is a holiday right this about people coming together this is about you know giving to others and showing people that you love them and then to have this kind of just terrible terrible thing happen uh i mean for for me that this is top of the scale so uh i'm gonna put this at a 10 but always i want to hear from you the listeners the locksmiths

18:16.130 --> 18:20.076

19:23.741 --> 19:27.547
